Actor Dev Patel, who shot to fame with his breakout role in Slumdog Millionaire, is set to make his directorial debut, reports Variety.

His first film as director will be Monkey Man, a revenge thriller set in modern-day India.

The story of Monkey Man goes something like this: Kid emerges from prison to grapple with a world marred by “corporate greed and eroding spiritual values.” Patel has co-written its script with Happy Feet writer John Collee and Paul Angunawela. Not one to take things too easy, he will also play the lead character himself.

No other plot details have been revealed, except that Monkey Man is heavily inspired by mythology.

The film's shoot will kick off in Mumbai in spring next year.
