They say love knows no age and it seems the team behind ARY Digital’s latest Eid telefilm Dadi ki Shadi took that very seriously.
The trailer for the feature dropped on Sunday and stars Shamim Hilaly as the widowed dadi looking to have her second shaadi to ensure she has someone to spend her golden years with.
What follows are the usual hijinks of a Pakistani romcom, with a grandson (Ahmed Randhawa) keen to see his grandma happy, a granddaughter (Alizeh Shah) seemingly setting her up on dating apps and her children (Aadi Adeal Amjad and Hina Rizvi) who are confused about what’s going on.
The plot thickens as a small army of old men gather at dadi’s door to try to court her, with the family and their witty servant (Nazar Ul Hasan) interviewing candidates.
In the meantime, feelings erupt between the cousins helping their grandmother as the boy asks the girl to marry him in one of the scenes — the trailer left us hanging on whether she accepts his proposal.
Dadi ki Shadi was written by Umer Qazi, who has previously lent his pen to Chand Raat Aur Chandni, another Eid telefilm featuring an unrequited neighbourhood love story and starring Shah in the lead role. Director Rao Ayaz Shehzad is also an ARY veteran, having last worked on the 2025 drama serial Inteha.
The channel says the show will have “laughter, emotions and a celebration,” we think it’ll have love, family and a weirdly high number of scenes involving a shotgun.
In either case, Dadi ki Shadi has all the trappings of a light comedy the whole family can get together to watch on Eid.
