Deadpool & Wolverine cleared for viewing in cinemas in Sindh
Deadpool & Wolverine has been cleared for release in Sindh after a delay on the opening day of the movie due to cinemas not receiving the censor certificate from the Sindh Censor Board in time.
The film, which was supposed to be screened across Pakistan today (July 26), was held in the province because of censorship issues, per an announcement on the Nueplex website citing the film’s distributor, HKC Entertainment.
The announcement read, “Dear Patrons, the distributor of the film Deadpool & Wolverine has informed us to hold all shows of the film Deadpool & Wolverine (2D/3D, English & Urdu Dubbed), [because] the movie has not been censored yet in Sindh.”
Nueplex Cinemas offered a refund to all those who had purchased the tickets. It was also giving them the option to adjust their tickets to future dates when the movie will be approved for screening. It has now said that tickets purchased for Friday’s shows will be adjusted in other available shows.
Cinepax issued no such notice on their website and shows for Deadpool & Wolverine are not available. Atrium Cinemas has announced that it is indefinitely closed.
A video of impassioned cinema-goers chanting “Deadpool, Deadpool” has been shared online from what appears to be a branch of Nueplex.
In other news, filmmaker Usman Riaz is making the best of the situation and wants you not to fret and go watch The Glassworker instead. In a well-intentioned, light-hearted jest, Riaz shared the announcement on his Instagram with a bunch of fairly hilarious Glassworker versus Deadpool & Wolverine memes.
In the caption he wrote, “We’re here for you during this tough time. The Glassworker is now screening across select cinemas in Pakistan — have you gotten your tickets yet?”
No statements have been issued by the Sindh Censor Board or HKC yet.
