Ms Marvel to receive Ensemble Award at the Critics Choice Asian cinema celebration

Ms Marvel has reached another milestone — the show’s cast will receive the Critic Choice Association’s (CCA) Ensemble Award for Television for their performances in the show.

On Thursday, the CCA announced the honourees for its inaugural Celebration of Asian Pacific Cinema and Television, “honouring the finest achievements in front of and behind the camera”. The gala event will be held on November 4 in Los Angeles. Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy shared the news on her Instagram with a sticker that read “Bravo”.

Alongside the Disney+ series cast, the award-winners include Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk, actor Park Eun-bin who played Woo Young-woo in Netflix series Extraordinary Attorney Woo and actor James Hong for his performance as Gong Gong in film Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The news was celebrated by cast members Zenobia Shroff and Mohan Kapoor, Ms Marvel’s parents in the show, who re-shared it on Twitter.

It was also welcomed by fans who couldn’t be more overjoyed.

The show is a coming-of-age story of 16-year-old Kamala, a Pakistani-American teen who lives in Jersey City. Kamala is an aspiring artist, an avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe. She is also a huge fan of the Avengers — and one in particular, Captain Marvel. But Kamala has always struggled to find her place in the world — that is until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to.

The six-episode mini-series is helmed by Oscar-winning Pakistani filmmaker Obaid-Chinoy, Meera Menon, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. The first episode dropped on Disney+ on June 8 and Marvel Studios also released the show exclusively in cinemas in Pakistan.

The cast also includes Pakistani actors Fawad Khan, Mehwish Hayat, Nimra Bucha and Indian actor Farhan Akhtar.
