Emma Thompson's terrifying Miss Trunchbull revealed in the first teaser for Netflix's Matilda
Emma Thompson can do no wrong when it comes to her acting and we're pumped to see as Miss Trunchbull in Matlida.
On Wednesday, Netflix revealed the first teaser for their upcoming movie Matilda the Musical and all we could focus on was Thompson as the evil headmistress Miss Trunchbull.
Young Matilda is played by Alisha Weir, everyone's favourite avid reader with a powerful imagination and magical abilities. The trailer transported us back to Crunchem Hall replete with the evil Trunchbull's lessons and swinging children around by their hair. "Matilda Wormwood, criminals like you need a real lesson," Thompson tells Weir at the end of the teaser.
Miss Honey, the kindhearted teacher of everyone's dreams, is being played by Lashana Lynch, who played Maria Rambeau, Captain Marvel's best friend.
According to People, the official synopsis of the movie describes it as "an inspirational musical tale of an extraordinary girl who discovers her superpower and summons the remarkable courage, against all odds, to help others change their stories, whilst also taking charge of her own destiny. Standing up for what's right, she's met with miraculous results."
The cast includes Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough as Matilda's parents and Sindhu Vee as librarian Mrs. Phelps. The musical is being helmed by Matthew Warchus, written by Dennis Kelly and music by Tim Minchin.
The film is a remake of Roald Dahl's novel Matilda, which was published in 1988. The first movie adaptation was made in 1996, directed by and starring Danny DeVito. He played the father of Matilda, portrayed by Mara Wilson. The classic film also starred Rhea Perlman as Matilda's mom, Embeth Davidtz as Miss Honey and Pam Ferris as Miss Trunchbull.
Late last year, Netflix acquired the rights to several of Dahl's works, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, The Witches, The BFG and more. Currently a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake is also in the works with Oscar winner Taika Waititi and Timothee Chalamet.
