From 'Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe' to 'Pyaar Ke Pal': 5 KK songs we will always remember

Indian singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known as KK, died on Tuesday night after falling ill in the middle of a concert, local media reported.

Tributes to the singer, who was 53, poured in on social media, from Abhishek Bachchan to our very own Minal Khan, Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood. Today, we're remembering him with his hit singles that take us back to the years when his songs were on loop on our CD and MP3 players.

Here are some of the KK songs we will never forget.

'Yaaron'

Featured in the 1999 film Rockford, the song talks about friendship and the bond and love you have for your closest friends. It talks about a friend who has your back and is part of your life at every step or decision you make, be it them scolding you or being there by your side when you're sad.

Rockford is based on a 13-year-old boy that moves to a Catholic boarding school called Rockford. He initially starts off as a nervous kid who later builds valuable relationships.

'Pyaar Ke Pal'

Part of his 1999 album Pal, 'Pyaar Ke Pal' was one of KK's many hits and is still being played on repeat 23 years later. Upon hearing of his demise, many actors and singers began their tributes to KK with this song. It starts with "hum rahein ya naa rahein kal, kal yaad ayenge ye pal (whether we live or not tomorrow, we will remember these moments)".

The song is associated with friendship, a lost friend or partner when referring to the fond memories you have with them.

'Ankhon Mein Teri'

Featured in Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's 2007 film Om Shanti Om, the song is a love note from Om Makhija/Kapoor (Khan) to Shanti Priya (Padukone) who is a movie star that he admires.

The soft love song sits perfectly with the scene where the movie star walks the red carpet in a very Bollywood way, while Om, a fan, gazes at her with admiration. The song talks about the gaze of the lover and how you cannot stop thinking about them.

'Hai Junoon'

This song was featured in New York, a 2009 movie starring Katrina Kaif, Neil Nitin Mukesh and John Abraham.

The song opens to a playful melody with guitar strings and KK's vocals. He sings about living in the moment surrounded by friends, self-assurance, a reason to dream big and being passionate about living the life the way it is.

'Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe'

If you're a 90s kid there's very little chance you don't know this song from Dil Chahta Hai. It was the ultimate party song.

In the movie, the song opens to a club scene where Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Khanna are seen dancing and having the times of their lives. Not only was the dance an intense workout, the song was also catchy enough that we're all still singing it today.
