Masked gang steals $333,000 worth of equipment from the set of crime drama Lupin in Paris

After The Crown, another Netflix series has been robbed during filming. The incident took place in Paris while part three of the series was being filmed. Ironically, the show is based on the story of a man named Assane Diop who takes inspiration from world-famous gentleman thief Arsène Lupin and commits the largest heist in Paris. This time the target was the set of Lupin.

Approximately 20 people entered the set using mortar fireworks — fireworks that are fired into the air using a tube — and stole €300,000 ($333,000) worth of equipment. Variety quoted AFP and said the main lead of the show, Omar Sy, was filming on the set when the robbery took place on the outskirts of Paris on Feb 25.

Netflix confirmed the news to Variety and said, "there was an incident on Feb 25 while filming the upcoming season of Lupin. Our cast and crew are safe and there were no injuries.” An investigation has now begun by the authorities of Nanterre where the incident took place.

Just a few hours after the incident, Sy was on stage for the Cesar Awards celebrate the 10th anniversary of comedy Intouchables that got him a Cesar prize for Best Actor in 2012.

The first two parts of Lupin released in 2021 and instantly became a favourite amongst fans for its mystery and suspense. This is the second robbery on the set of a Netflix series within a week —there was a robbery happened on the sets of The Crown on Feb 22.

The set of the show based on the British royal family was robbed just a few days before the recent incident. Around 350 props were stolen from a lorry park in Mexborough, South Yorkshire, including a clock face of a William IV grandfather clock, a 10-piece silver dressing table set, replica of Fabergé egg, silver and gold candelabra and crystal glassware. The props are valued at $200,000 and the incident was immediately reported to the local police.
