Atif Aslam, Aima Baig and Abdullah Siddiqui's PSL anthem is out and it's getting mixed reactions online

There's nothing that gets Pakistanis talking on social media like a PSL anthem and this year's anthem, 'Agay Dekh' by Atif Aslam, Aima Baig and Abdullah Siddiqui, is no different.

The song has racked up over one million views on YouTube but reactions to it are mixed.

'Agay Dekh' ironically has fans looking at its predecessor, 'Groove Mera' by Young Stunners, Baig and Naseebo Lal — which also received backlash when it was released — causing the PSL 6 anthem to climb up to the top of the trend ladder.

Siddiqui took to Instagram to announce the release. "It’s out! Had a blast making this. Hope you like it."

The caption of the official video for the song on YouTube said, "This year’s HBL PSL anthem carries forward the nationwide spirit and culture surrounding it. ‘Agay Dekh’ urges audiences to look beyond binaries of victory and defeat, and enjoy the game in its purest essence."

Last year, the PSL was played in relatively empty stadiums due to Covid-19 restrictions, but this year the matches will be played in front of an audience. "Pakistan’s biggest sporting event is a festival and a celebration, and the anthem pays tribute to everyone who waits excitedly for this time of year. With 'Agay dekh' we have strived to showcase how much we love cricket, as well as capture the attitude, the fierceness and the banter that houses that love."

Natasha Noorani, one of the writers and composers of the anthem, shared a clip of the song on her Instagram Story and said, "Can't believe Atif Aslam is singing melodies I wrote for him."

Coke Studio retweeted the anthem and called it fire.

Though Pakistani Twitter was super hyped about the release, there were mixed reactions to the anthem. Some were loyal to the game, some to Aslam and some even pointed out that just like with Pakistani governments, when a new PSL song comes out, people believe the previous one was better.

Some were too busy checking views to comment on the song.

While others were missing singer Ali Zafar.

Aslam fans offered their undying support.

While meme-makers got straight to it.
