Hania Aamir won't apologise for being human nor should she have to

Hania Aamir spoke her mind loud and clear on social media recently when she wrote an emotional but firm message for her followers.

The actor — who has starred in dramas such as Anaa and Ishqiya — has never shied away from sharing her struggles with cyber bullying and online harassment as well as shedding light on the vitriol and verbal abuse that celebrities face as a repercussion of being in the public eye. Aamir's recent message highlights how being her "flamboyant, loud and kind" self in public seems to be the reason many netizen direct negative comments her way.

"I’m young I’m genuine I’m flamboyant I’m loud and I’m kind. Just because I’m growing up in front of so many people does not mean I can’t live my life," she wrote on Instagram. "I will make mistakes. I will change. I will make bad choices and I will make better ones. My views will change and some won’t. I will grow and I will learn. But I will not apologise for being human. I will not apologise for growing, for evolving."

The Ishqiya actor called the message her "honest hour" and shared how she's been struggling with cyber-bullying. "Honest hour because I’ve been struggling with these thoughts for the past few weeks trying to figure out what could possibly please the negative ones on the internet," Aamir wrote. "I’ve come to a conclusion that I absolutely do not know how to be anyone else but me. I have unapologetically been myself loud and clear and that should not change because people fail to understand me.

"I am not just pretty pictures, I am much more," Aamir emphasised. "I can’t be pretentious and I will not try to be someone I’m not. I hope we all can grow together and learn to be more tolerant towards each other."

The actor then addressed those who also might be struggling with being their true selves. "Do not lose your individuality just because you don’t see anyone like you or because people around you don’t understand you," she wrote. "As long as you’re not hurting anyone, be yourself boo."

In 2020, Aamir had opened up about the hurtful comments she was receiving on social media. "Words are powerful. They can create and destroy. Why use them to knock people down when you can use them to lift each other up?" she questioned her followers.

In April, Aamir revealed that a user had unfollowed her on Instagram because "she crossed her limits". "This world has only a handful of people left who are real and genuine," she said in response. "This is because people address them with weird names ‘oh he’s such a show-off etc etc’, when they’re only trying to be as authentic as possible."

It doesn’t make any sense to hate on them, the Ishqiya actor had emphasised.

In June, a disturbed Aamir opened up about how someone had manipulated a video of her Instagram Live to include a picture of a man ejaculating onto her picture. The video had been viewed and shared numerous times online. She expressed how difficult it was to be a public personality in a "misogynistic world with double standards."

Her latest comments drive home the fact that being a celebrity isn't all it's cracked up to be. Celebrities are human too and they're also learning as they go. Making small mistakes or misjudgements isn't cause to slander or hurt a person, be it a celebrity or anyone else. Just like Aamir said, no one should have to apologise for being human.
