How to take an Insta-worthy selfie, a lesson by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

A selfie is hardly a novel concept but to post one that focuses on you and only you — no stunning background or a prop in the photo to shift the focus away even slightly — takes a certain kind of confidence. And Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is oozing that confidence in the selfie he posted on Saturday.

It's not like the politician, who is in his 30s, hasn't posted pictures of himself before. But this one is a closeup and has all the makings of an Insta-worthy selfie. The type that we're used to seeing influencers and bloggers posting but coming from the PPP chairperson, definitely made us do a double take.

BBZ captioned the photo "Summer. Is. Here.", a clear reference to the soaring temperatures Sindh is experiencing but unlike our attempts at a summer selfie, he isn't red in the face and sweating profusely.

So what exactly did the Bhutto-Zardari scion get right in his selfie and what lessons can all you Insta people take away from it?

Pucker up

Anyone can take a selfie, not everyone can pout. Let's not beat around the bush: BBZ's pout IS unashamedly the focus in the photo and can we just ask: where is this fountain of confidence that Bilawal has discovered and can he point us to it?

Smize or smoulder

Remember Tyra Banks and 'smizing'? Click here if you need a refresher. So we're pretty sure what BBZ has going on is a version of smizing but more intense. So that's lesson #2: to really catch attention, go for an effortless smouldering gaze.

Purposefully tousled hair

Okay, Bilawal, you're not fooling anyone. We know that one lock on your forehead didn't just happen to be there. But it's totally fine — we're not judging, we're impressed by how you've nailed the messy 'au naturel' hairdo.

Follow the light

Is it the lighting or is it his skin? We'll never know. What we do know, selfie takers, is that lighting is everything. The right lighting can accentuate all the right features — in this case providing Bilawal's face natural Huda Kattan-level contouring. Also, if Bilawal hasn't used a filter, can he also point us to the fountain of smooth skin (or at least share his skincare routine)?

Eyebrows on fleek

This one is a more of a "if you've got it, flaunt it" type of a tip. If you have naturally thick eyebrows, learn to rock them. Thankfully the pencil-thin eyebrows of the 90s are long gone and now it's all about fuller eyebrows. South Asians are naturally endowed with thick eyebrows but if you still want some tips and tricks, click here.
