Pakistani celebs arranged an exclusive protest following anti-rape rally

Displaying the true essence of using their celebrity for the greater good, Pakistani stars took to the streets outside Karachi's Press Club on 14 September, demanding for justice for rape survivors and demanding swift action against the perpetrators of the Lahore-Sialkot motorway gang-rape incident.

Standing at the forefront of these protests outside the Karachi Press Club were popular names such as Mahira Khan, Ayesha Omar, Adnan Siddiqui, Bushra Ansari, Frieha Altaf, Sarah Khan, Sarwat Gillani and Deepak Perwani among others.

However, the fact that the media industry organised a separate protest instead of attending the first one arranged by Aurat March, did not sit well with many, as they wondered why they didn't just simply join hands for a consolidated effort.

Some pointed out that Sanam Saeed, Meesha Shafi and Hajra Yamin were a handful of the only few names spotted midst the crowd when the initial protest attended by thousands, took place on Saturday.

The trans community also felt neglected, as the star-studded protest took away from their own protest that was taking place simultaneously but was given little to no coverage.

Speaking up against the killing of Shakeel alias Gul Panra, they expressed grave concerns regarding the increasing incidents of violence on the community and demanded of the government to take practical steps for their protection.

Others suggested a better solution would be for them to start making changes from home, perhaps by rejecting scripts that normalise abuse and portray them at the mercy of dominant, abusive men.

Whatever the reason may be, as mentioned earlier, we're glad to see famous people using their platform to spread awareness about violence against women.
