Did you know no one gets paid to perform at the Super Bowl?

Shakira and Jennifer Lopez went all out for their performance at the Super Bowl and it showed.

The little over 14 minute jaw-dropping show blew everyone away as the two icons brought Latina star power to Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show, delivering a medley of their pop hits and flawless choreography on one of the world’s glitziest stages.

But then a question started making the rounds on the internet; how much did they earn from it? And the answer seemed appalling... $0.

It does sound shocking that the grand performance resulted in nil for the two stars but then we did a little digging and found out why that is so.

Turns out, no one gets paid for the Super Bowl halftime performance.

From Lady Gaga to Maroon 5, no artist has ever earned from the show, which does sound odd considering millions across America are glued to the screen watching it. So why do artists take on this gig?

Forbes reported that America's National Football League (NFL) doesn't pay any of their performers for their shows; instead, the league pays for the performance itself, covering production-cost and giving free rein to the artists to spend on their show however they'd like. From the dancers to the set to the wardrobe, it's all on them.

Considering it all, it makes us wonder as to why musicians happily volunteer to perform the show. Despite no earnings, the artists are actually performing at one of USA's biggest events of the year, with their own vision being taken care of by the NFL itself. Next time someone asks you to work for 'exposure', make sure you give them this example. This is how exposure works people!

For both Shakira and JLo, the performance was lucrative in many ways. The two gained at least two million followers within 12 hours of the show, with their names spiking on Google search. Searches for their tracks also spiked by an average of 2200%.
