Iqra Aziz's latest drama sparks outrage for making light of domestic violence

After Meray Pass Tum Ho, ARY Digital has a new drama on its way which stars Iqra Aziz and Ahmed Ali Butt.

Drama Jhooti got two trailers and while the first one looks comparatively alright, showing Iqra as a resilient woman...

... the second trailer started making the rounds on social media as from the looks of it, Aziz is playing a woman who is pretending to play a victim of domestic abuse, leading us to wonder if this is what makes her the titular jhooti.

With domestic violence being a conversation not many are willing to speak on, it makes sense that this didn't settle with many. Such abuse is played down with claims that it's not as common nor big of a problem, while many make sure to comment on how it cannot be true.

Dramas like Jhooti - should it take the path the trailer implies it will take - play their part in trivialising the matter further and folks made sure to get on Twitter and say so.

They called out ARY for the idea

Making sure to point out the misogyny

And the stereotypes it enforces

Because abuse is very real

And should not be trivialised
