How to rock a casual sari — whether it’s day or night

A sari is basically just a long piece of material coupled with a blouse. But when worn wrapped around oneself, it'll take your look from 0 to a 100 real fast.

Now we usually end up saving our sari-wearing dreams for school farewells or wedding but did you know that you can totally rock a casual sari too?

While wearing a sari sounds high-maintenance, we've found it's actually quite the opposite and pretty darn liberating. Pair an airy, breezy sari with a white button down, crop top or blouse, the options are endless.

As the weather cools down and the festive season begins, here’s some inspo for how to style a casual sari for both day and night — because it really is just that versatile.

Pair it with a jacket

Mahira Khan’s blazer with a printed sari is a classic look that’s perfect for winter outings. Opt for a leather or fitted jacket to transition to an evening look.

Play around with florals...

Florals aren’t just for spring and, worn in winter, can in fact be groundbreaking.

Or stripes!

Go monochrome

Solid or minimal monochromes work well for both day and night; Amna Ilyas and Mira Sethi show us how.

If you're feeling daring, how about some abstract prints?

Mira Sethi shows us how to style tie-dye and abstract prints with minimal accessories and styling.

Weaves that you can dress up or down

Woven fabrics like khaddar and gamcha made a comeback this year, and the bright colours and thicker weaves are great for the cooler season too. Recreate Eman Suleman’s look with a plain white tee and classic red lip, and substitute the weaves for print
