Veere Di Wedding star Swara Bhasker apologises to Indian Muslims for the hate during election season

As cases of hate crime against Muslims in India see a sharp rise, especially during the country's election season, Veere Di Wedding actor Swara Bhasker has raised concern at the ill-treatment of minorities in the country.

The Bollywood star issued an apology to Muslims on Twitter, saying "I want to apologise to the Muslims of India & the non-Savarna castes of India & the Muslims of India".

She said she was apologising for the ceaseless offensive bigotry that minorities in India are dealing with this election season.

She also encouraged minorities to stand up for themselves, saying "this is your country, don’t be silenced".

She then went on to say, "as a woman.. what can I say", adding that women deal with bigotry and unfair treatment on a daily basis.
