Khyber Pakhtunkhwa launches radio campaign for women's rights

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women has launched a radio campaign across the province to educate community about the role and mandate of the commission and advocate for women rights by discussing violence against the gender, particularly girls, child marriages and honour killings.

A statement issued here on Wednesday quoted the commission’s chairperson Neelum Toru as saying that there were many issues that affected women in KP, and which could be best heard and highlighted through radio.

The radio campaign will comprise of series of programmes on women-based themes and will be aired on every Thursday at Radio Pakistan and FM-101.

“I know that these topics are sensitive and people are reluctant to talk about them, but if we keep shying away, then I am afraid that it will not be possible to craft solutions for issues that are holding women back from realising their full potential,” she said.
