7DMI rules box office with Rs53 million earnings on Eid weekend

Four Pakistani films can be a crowd at the local box office on Eid but it appears that 7 Din Mohabbat In managed to make the most of the lucrative holiday weekend.

7DMI's distributors Distribution Club estimated Tuesday that the rom-com earned Rs53 million (Rs5.3 crore) in Pakistani theaters on the Eid weekend ending Monday night.

In comparison, independent box office tracking website Box Office Detail puts Moammar Rana-starrer Azaadi's Eid earnings at Rs41 million (Rs4.1 crore), while Wajood and Na Band Na Baraati are said to have earned Rs18.5 million (Rs1.85 crore) and Rs0.6 million (Rs60 lacs) respectively.

7DMI follows Tipu (Sheheryar Munawar) and Neeli (Mahira Khan) as they surmount a series of obstacles on their quest to find true love.

Apart from the lead actors' obvious pull factor, Fasih Bari Khan's widely appealing story with its blend of romance, comedy and magical realism can also be said to contribute to the film's success so far.

Critics have praised the film for strong performances and striking visuals and positive word-of-mouth is likely to help 7DMI attract audiences in the ongoing week.

Directed by Farjad Nabi and Meenu Gaur, 7DMI continues to screen across cinemas in Pakistan.
