Kumail Nanjiani signs on to My Beautiful Laundrette TV series

Kumail Nanjiani, star and writer of The Big Sick, has landed his next big project.

And no, we're not talking about his buddy cop film with John Cena.

Kumail has signed on to co-write and act in an upcoming TV adaptation of My Beautiful Laundrette, reports Variety.

My Beautiful Laundrette is a screenplay written by Pakistani-British writer Hanif Kureshi that was adapted into an Oscar-nominated film starring Daniel Day Lewis in 1985.

"The film revolved around a young British man of Pakistani heritage and his white boyfriend, a former gang leader, who take on running a London laundromat owned by the British-Pakistani man’s uncle. The film was lauded for its portrayal of the gay and immigrant communities," writes Variety.

Kumail's acting role in the film is so far not known.

The TV adaptation will have 10 episodes and will be executive produced by Academy Award-winning writer-director Stephen Gaghan along with Kureishi and Silicon Valley’s Alec Berg.
