These celebrities are protesting the Verna ban on social media

It's ironic, isn't it?

A film whose punchline was about challenging power di game (the politics of power) in Pakistan gets banned by the censor board three days before release.

It is not yet certain why the Mahira Khan-starrer has been banned. "We are looking into the 'unanimous objections' raised by a panel of CBFC on Verna after the preview under the relevant laws," Chairman CBFC Mobashir Hasan had told Images.

However, the filmmakers have a chance of turning their fate around - if they issue an appeal in time.

The movers and shakers of the artist community have spoken out against the ban, in Pakistan and India.

Artists are calling out CBFC for curbing artistic expression.

The CBFC ban has also thrown people off as the Sindh censor board had approved the film.

Regardless, most tend to think the film is about a subject ─ rape and violence against women ─ that needs to be talked about in the open.

Even Deepika weighed in on the Verna ban

Much sentiment among supporters of freedom of expression, let's see how this one plays out.
