There are no dream sequences between Deepika and Ranveer in Padmavati, says director Bhansali
Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming film Padmavati has been making headlines months before its release in December.
The period drama, which is based on a fictionalised account of the legendary Rani Padmini's life, has elicited a strong reaction from certain parties who believe that the film will tarnish the Rajput queen's image.
In the video message, Bhansali says he was always been inspired by the story of Rani Padmavati (played by Deepika Padukone). "This [film] is my tribute to the sacrifice, valour and honour of Rani Padmavati. I have made it with utmost honesty, responsibility and hard work."
"But because of some rumours, the film is being dragged into a controversy," the director and producer of the film says, referring to reports circulating that Deepika is seen romancing Ranveer in the film.
"I have clarified it before, in written and now through this video that there are no scenes in the film that will hurt anyone's sentiments," Bhansali says, adding there are no dream sequences or romantic scenes between the Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji in the movie.
"We have made the film keeping in mind the Rajput tradition and honour," he adds.
The film also features Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh and is slated to release on December 1.
