Must watch: Priyanka Chopra tackles corruption as a fierce police officer in Jai Gangaajal

After playing an FBI trainee on American television show Quantico, a boxer in the biopic Mary Kom and an impressionable model in the unforgiving entertainment industry in Fashion, Priyanka Chopra is back with another relentless role.

Chopra will be channeling her inner Dabangg's Chulbul Pandey in Prakash Jha's film Jai Gangaajal; she looks like she means business in the nearly three minute long trailer as SP Abha Mathur.

In Jai Gangaajal Priyanka is a no-nonsense, tough talking police official in a position of authority in a male-dominated police force. She tackles corruption without fear.

The gritty trailer doesn't shy away from touching upon some tough subjects like the issue of rape plaguing India. In one scene, a woman can be seen surrounded by men in a bus, trying to escape but forcefully being kept onboard, something that hits close to home.

Jha and Chopra have both spoken out about the release of the juvenile offender in the December 16 Delhi gang rape case.

"“I have always said that I don’t agree with it. It’s a heinous crime. It is unforgivable. I am a law-abiding citizen, that’s why I will go with whatever the law decides but it was too heinous a crime to be forgiven," shared the actress when speaking to Indian Express.

Another interesting thing we picked up from the trailer was that her team addresses her as 'Madam Sir', an indication of deeply-entrenched gender discrimination and the resistance by the system to simply accept that a woman is in a superior position.

Director Prakash Jha also marks his screen debut with the film as a morally bankrupt police officer and even shaved off his trademark beard for the role.

Jai Gangaajal is slated to hit cinemas on 4 March in 2016.
