Cricketer Imad Wasim made a surprising announcement on social media Monday night, letting the world know that he had gotten remarried. The news comes less than two months after the cricketer said he had filed for divorce from his first wife.

“I went through one of the hardest chapters of my life after a marriage that did not work. Even so, that chapter gave me the greatest blessings of my life, my children. I love them beyond words, and that love will never change,” he wrote in a lengthy note shared to his Instagram page.

“I stayed longer than I should have, holding on to hope and trying to protect what mattered most to me. In doing so, I made decisions I regret. My delay and silence contributed to a situation where an innocent person was unfairly judged and subjected to criticism she did not deserve. I take full responsibility for that, and I carry that weight with sincerity and remorse.”

The cricketer said that “with the grace of Allah and the guidance of my parents”, he had married a woman named Nyla. “This step was taken thoughtfully and with clear intention, to build a life rooted in peace, stability, and mutual respect. Nyla has brought calm, dignity and strength into my life, and I stand by this decision with complete conviction,” he wrote.

“Above anything else, my commitment remains to my children. Fatherhood is not defined only by provision, but by presence, love, and guidance. Despite giving my utmost, I am still unable to see them. My only wish is to be actively and meaningfully involved in their lives, for their well-being and future.

“I move forward with accountability for my past, respect for everyone involved, and hope for healing, understanding and peace.”

He concluded his note with a request that his personal life be treated with “dignity and privacy”. “Not everything need to be debated publicly, and not every chapter needs commentary. Sometimes, the most meaningful way forward is with compassion, restraint and respect for boundaries.”

His announcement comes after he told his followers he had filed for divorce at the end of December. While the all-rounder attributed the separation to long-standing, unresolved conflicts, Ashfaq’s statement painted a far more painful picture — one that mentioned the involvement of a “third party” whose desire to marry Wasim she described as the final blow to an already fragile marriage.

“My home has been broken, and my children have been left without their father. I am a mother of three, including a five-month-old infant who has yet to be held by his father,” she wrote in a post that quickly drew public attention.

Describing her attempts to hold the marriage together, Ashfaq said, “Like many marriages, ours had difficulties, yet it continued to exist. I remained committed as a wife and mother and made sincere efforts to preserve our family. What ultimately ended this marriage was the involvement of a third party, whose intention was to marry my husband, became the final blow to an already struggling union.”

Her statement came hours after Wasim announced the divorce on Instagram, requesting privacy and asking the public to stop referring to Ashfaq as his spouse. He also cautioned against what he termed “misleading narratives”, stating that he would pursue legal action against any attempts at defamation.

Ashfaq also made several explosive claims in her post. Mentioning the unnamed “third party”, she said, “Following this, I endured emotional torment, mistreatment, abortion and abandonment while pregnant and vulnerable, choosing patience for the sake of my children and the dignity of my home.” She also claimed to have “documented evidence” to back up her allegations.

Wasim married London-based Ashfaq in August 2019 in a ceremony held in Islamabad. The couple first met in London and had known each other for some time before deciding to make their relationship official.

A few months ago he and his new flame were denying their ties calling it "a fan interaction." Goes to show the ex-wife was right all along.

Not my business. But when it is in the public forum, provokes a response. Imaad talks of accountability and his ex wife pain and loss with three children. Divorces wreck lives and and Imaad should have handled it better and saved the marriage. These wounds are hard to heal
