Netflix introduces Desi Bling — Dubai Bling’s unapologetically extra and flashy relative
If Dubai Bling was Netflix’s love letter to excess, its upcoming spinoff Desi Bling looks ready to turn that indulgence into a full-blown spectacle, this time with a desi touch.
The new reality series swaps Dubai’s mixed-bag elite for an all-South Asian cast. The teaser doesn’t bother easing viewers in. “He buys me three kilos of gold every year,” declares one cast member. While that neatly sums up what the show’s about before the screen fills with diamonds, couture wardrobes, private jets and sweeping shots of Dubai’s already excessive skyline, it also sounds a little cringe.
According to Netflix, Desi Bling offers a peek into the lives of ultra-wealthy Indian expats in the UAE, where business empires, celebrity egos and personal drama collide. The teaser promises shifting alliances, fractured relationships and masala (gossip) as a kind of social currency.
Among the most recognisable faces are businessmen Rizwan Sajan and Satish Sanpal, whose estimated net worths reportedly run into the billions of dirhams. Television stars Karan Kundrra and Tejasswi Prakash also feature prominently, stepping into a social circle where money talks loudly and discretion appears optional. In one teaser moment, Sajan says what binds the group together is “success and power”, despite their vastly different backgrounds.
The full cast includes Karan Kundrra, Tejasswi Prakash, Satish Sanpal, Tabinda Sanpal, Rizwan Sajan, Adel Sajan, Sana Sajan, Pamala Serena, Dyuti Parruck, Iryna Kinakh, Alizey Mirza, Lailli Mirza and Janvee Gaur. A release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Behind the scenes, Desi Bling comes from Different Productions, the same company behind Dubai Bling, The Doctors, It’s Ok (the Elissa documentary), and Shark Tank Dubai & Lebanon. According to Khaleej Times, the production house is betting big on what it sees as one of the region’s most ambitious cross-cultural reality shows yet.
“Desi Bling was born out of curiosity,” Marcel Dufour, creative director at Different Productions and the show’s showrunner, told the outlet. “We wanted to explore a world that has long been part of Dubai’s fabric but rarely seen on screen… This marked our first production created specifically for the Indian market.”

Filmed in both English and Hindi, Desi Bling claims to go beyond surface-level luxury and dabble in themes of identity, belonging and the complexities of expat life. “The Desi diaspora carries layers of heritage, family expectation, cultural pride, and generational contrast. We wanted to tap into all of that,” Dufour added.
He also hinted at a strong generational dynamic, with parents, children and long-established Dubai families navigating tensions between traditional values and modern freedoms. “Audiences should expect to be surprised by vulnerability. There are moments that are unexpectedly raw, conversations you don’t often see in glossy reality formats.”

Of course, the city itself remains a major character. From glittering parties to chic restaurants and high-octane nightlife, Dubai provides the perfect backdrop, though Dufour insists it isn’t the story. “Both shows share the same city as a backdrop, but the city itself is not the story,” he says. “Each series shines a light on a different circle within Dubai.”
Whether Desi Bling genuinely balances emotional depth with its love for excess remains to be seen. For now, we can tell that this is a show that knows exactly what it’s selling — money, power and the performance of status — and it’s betting that viewers will happily watch, even if only to gawk, critique or roll their eyes, as the gold piles up by the kilo.
