The bidding war is over and PIA has been acquired by the Arif Habib consortium for a whopping Rs135 billion. The other group in the running was the Lucky Cement group, which had a final bid of Rs134 billion. In contrast was Airblue, which bid a hilarious Rs26.5 billion.

While the whole matter is very serious and involves the privatisation of the national flag carrier, the internet can’t help but wonder why Airblue bothered in the first place when they went in with a bid that was so low.

People had some serious jokes.

Others thought there was free publicity at stake.

The airline’s bid resembled certain aunts with strong bargaining skills.

Some imagined the reception to their bid,

while others believed they had figured out the real reason they were there.

But as Pakistanis, we can all relate.

The real lesson we can all take from this is to reach for the stars, no matter what the odds stacked against us are.

Great attitude - reach for the stars, no matter what the odds stacked against us are. As a procurement leader, that motto works. But be consistent.
