‘Peace without justice is empty’: Shehbaz Sharif’s acceptance of Trump’s Gaza plan sparks outrage

Pakistanis are rejecting Trump's 20-point proposal, calling it 'occupation rebranded'.
Updated 30 Sep, 2025

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has many netizens up in arms after he enthusiastically welcomed former US President Donald Trump’s 20-point “peace plan” for Gaza, a plan many say amounts to whitewashing Israel’s genocide.

In a post on X, Shehbaz declared himself “convinced that durable peace between the Palestinian people and Israel would be essential in bringing political stability and economic growth to the region”, praising Trump’s “leadership” and envoy Steve Witkoff’s “efforts” in ending the nearly two-year-long war on Gaza. He added that a two-state proposal was “essential to ensure lasting peace in the region”.

Pakistanis, however, are not buying it.

Within hours, X was flooded with outrage. Angry users have accused Shehbaz of “pleasing Washington,” “burying Pakistan’s stance on Palestine,” and even “legitimising Israel in one tweet”.

“We as Pakistanis cannot decide what the Palestinian people want. How can Gaza be demilitarised while Israel keeps a security perimeter after 70,000 civilian deaths?” a user asked.

“We’ve a responsibility to the Palestinian people,” a user reminded everyone. “Not because we share the same faith but because we oppose colonial subjugation.” They warned that by supporting Trump’s plan, Pakistan would be standing “with the genocide and the settler colonial state”.

“Neither foreign powers nor occupiers have the right to decide the future of Palestine,” one more emphasised. “Palestine needs freedom, justice and the end of apartheid, not empty plans,” they said.

Many argued that the 20-point Gaza ceasefire plan would only suit Israel and Trump, without giving Palestinians justice or freedom, since it would be “overseen by an international ‘Board of Peace’ led by Donald Trump, until the PA is reformed and ready”. According to point 13, Hamas will have “no role in governance and Gaza would be fully demilitarised”.

“Led by Trump? No way! Totally unfair plan,” commented veteran actor Sakina Samo under a Dawn post detailing the points. Others called it “occupation rebranded”.

One user called it “blatant manifestation of the US power projection” while another called it a “trap”.

Some called point nine — governance by the ‘Board of Peace’ — a summary of the entire plan.

For many, the endorsement of Trump’s plan looks less like diplomacy and more like capitulation. “Peace without justice is empty. Endorsement without conditions is betrayal,” one furious user wrote.

Pakistan’s long-held position has been firm: no recognition of Israel until Palestinians gain their rights. For many, the premier’s post sounds like a soft U-turn on that red line — and Pakistanis aren’t ready to forgive.

History, as more than one viral tweet warned, “will remember this betrayal”.

Pakistan does not have a firm foreign policy. Whoever gives them money, they follow the country blindly. No morale or ethics

Frustrating to see the world signing agreements on behalf of the Palestinian people and Gaza. How naïve to believe SS or SAM will have any real say they’ll simply toe the line of their creditors. And let’s not kid ourselves: even if IK were in power, nothing would have been different. They’re all the same.

Palestine belongs to western states! Guess why. See 1948 etc. Militarily weak countries cannot help directly the Palestinians! Murders of Iraqis, afghanis etc... is well known.

@Hadi Well our corrupt rulers throughout tike have turned us into a beggar nation so they go around and beg for money. Thats all they know. The awaam stays silent. After money is recieved and spent lining the pockets of the rulers, the same conspiracy theory minded awaam complains of West dictating our curriculum, social values, and introducing transgenderism, feminism and secret undercover agents working to dismantle our so-called "islamic" republic. This country has no morals, no identity, no education, no voice, no courage and certainly not much Islam. It just begs. It's so shameful. I hope President Trump gives our government zero money and just plays us just like we later them during the whole 'find Osama' mission The US should spent their money on their own people.

IK was on his knees begging money from the Saudis and Chinese while boasting he would never accept money from the US/West. The Sharifs are on their knees licking the boots of the US and by extension Israel for money. It's always somebody with money. Just look at the efforts; Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Trump. Now praising Trumps plan for Gaza. What's next? Giving Trump the Tamgha e Jurat or Tamgha e Imtiaz? Acknowledging Israel? Aiding Israel in operation Gaza Take Over? The power of $$$. This truly is a beggar nation. Disgraceful. Shame shame shame.

One of the ejection of the US and the West for not recognizing Palestinian state and for its support of Israel is the lack of democracy in the rule of Palestinian authority. Now, the US want to impose a zionist as a viceroy on Gazans.

Those tweeting does not understand the pain and suffering people of Gaza are undergoing. It is very easy to tweet from Airconditioned rooms and Soft Sofa. The reality is, the only country which can stop the War in Gaza is the US. And the plan proposed is promising Gazans their land in safety of International troops. If the deal on table is not accepted, the Gazans will keep suffering. Please stop the war and let Gazans live

It is unfortunate that the world has conveniently forgotten the Oslo Agreement II between Israel and Palestine. The leaders of the two countries, Yasir Arafat and Rabin were both awarded Nobel prize for the historic Agreement. But, unfortunately Rabin was assassinated by an Israeli youth, unhappy with the peace and subsequently all progress was washed away. It should be very natural to revisit the Oslo II agreement and start from there onwards

Oh man, apart of political statements or acts or plans, Continents, Countries, states, regions, religions, worlds, whatever to name it, They all should think about humanity which is basic and being overlooked for more than a year, and lives of people lost do not have source of compensation at all, and cant have any if is asked form their family. The thing it needs to do is resolving arising conflict on base of humanitarian law exclusively.
