‘Your silence is complicity’: Mark Ruffalo demands Trump, Europe ‘do something’ after famine declared in Gaza

Visibly angry and shouting into the camera, Ruffalo shared a video message for world leaders after the recent IPC declaration.

Actor Mark Ruffalo has once again spoken out for Palestine, this time in a fiery Instagram video following the UN-backed Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) officially declaring a famine in Gaza City and its surrounding areas.

A disturbing image is also being circulated online of alleged Israeli missiles marked with both Ruffalo and singer Billie Eilish’s names in an attempt to intimidate and target them for speaking up for Gaza.

Visibly angry and shouting into the camera, Ruffalo said in a video message on Instagram, “This is not a natural disaster. It’s not a drought. This is a man-made criminal act to kill civilian populations. And it’s being perpetrated by Israel and the IDF. They’ve got all the food in the world on one side of the border. And on the other side, they have nothing. Don’t let Gaza starve. SPEAK UP!”

Without mincing words, he called for the killing of children to stop, for a ceasefire, and for world leaders to act. “More than 80 per cent of the people who have died in this war are civilians. It’s insane. DO SOMETHING… President Trump, DO SOMETHING! Germany, DO SOMETHING! Europe, DO SOMETHING! UK, DO SOMETHING!”

In the caption, the Avengers star was just as blunt. “What we’re witnessing in Gaza is not just a tragedy, it is a crime against humanity. Forced starvation, a man-made famine, children and families wasting away while the world looks on in silence. This is not a natural disaster. This is the result of deliberate choices made by those in power. World leaders: your silence is complicity.”

He concluded his caption writing, “Raise your voices. Demand an end to this famine. Demand an end to the genocide and destruction. Demand accountability. Demand life.”

Ruffalo isn’t alone. Singer Eilish has also been consistently sharing posts about Gaza on her Instagram stories. Recently, she called Israel’s relocation plan for Palestinians “horrifying“. In several other stories, she has been amplifying on-the-ground voices in Gaza.

A disturbing image being circulated online by pages such as Artists for Palestine, Eye on Palestine, and Wear The Peace, shows Israeli missiles marked with both Eilish and Ruffalo’s names, highlighting how visible voices for Palestine are being targeted.

Previously, both Ruffalo and Eilish wore red Artists4Ceasefire pins at the Oscars.

The IPC — the international system for monitoring hunger — declared famine in Gaza Governorate, meaning more than half a million people are now experiencing starvation, destitution and death. The crisis is projected to spread to central and southern Gaza by the end of September, potentially affecting more than three-quarters of the population. Another 1.7 million people remain in “emergency” conditions.

The IPC has described the classification as “entirely man-made,” a result of Israel’s blockade on food, medicine and humanitarian supplies. Israel, predictably, has rejected the findings, dismissing them as “Hamas lies”.

Great expectations from those who don't care.

The Muslim and the Arab world’s silence on the root cause of the death and the destructions in Gaza, the Hamas and its misadventure of killing 1200 Israelis and kidnapping 250 innocent people. Israel has a moral duty to free their abducted citizens from the Hamas’ captivity. If the Hamas free the abducted Israeli citizens, the war in Gaza will have different outcome. But the Hamas are greedy to hang onto their security and their power in Gaza. The Hamas does care about the death of more than 62,000 people and the destructions in Gaza . Shame on you Hamas. The Muslims and the Arab world should be ashamed of themselves for not taking an active role to denounce and disarm the terrorist Hamas.

@Jono Can you explain how the world's leading and most advanced military with one of the most advanced and alert intelligence services were missing in action on the fateful morning of 7th October both frommthei check posts in the settlements as well as during the attacks? Do you honestly think Israeli government and intelligence didn't know of this attack? Let's suppose they didn't which speaks to complete incompetence and failure, but then when the attacks happened, where were they? Why was Hamas allowed to attack unchallenged with no hindrance? Where were the guards, IDF, the army, the police, the protection? And why is it that nearly 2 years into this war, after 77 years of experience more than 60k murders, absolute destruction of Gaza's infrastructure, Israel has neither managed to release the captives/hostages nor capture Hamas? They have all the advanced technology and intelligence at their finger tips along with a ferocious army? This was about annexation of Gaza all along. The hostages are just collateral damage and even a sacrifice. They could have released them way back. They didn't. They were never the actual goal. Just part of a bigger plan to expand Israel. It would not surprise me the least if Hamas and Israel are in this together. They both benefit from this war.

Gulf countries happily shopping in malls and eating at restaurants as genocide takes place in neighbouring country. Why is there no mass uprising in these countries to pressure their govts to intervene. Entire west can support Ukraine military to resist an occupation but no country is helping the Palestinians. Shame on you Arabs.

@SAQ By extension then many Pakistanis also become complicit by supporting the Gulf countries either through tourism such as Dubai/UAE, or as expats living and working in Oman, Qatar etc. And also when people undertake Umrah and Hajj to Saudi Arabia. A country notorious for not taking in refugees as well as dealing with Israelis even if covertly.
