This Independence Day, model Nadia Hussain is thinking of the people of Palestine. She posted pictures of herself with a caption explaining how her feelings are different this year in light of the situation in Palestine.

She said that she “surely [had] mixed feelings about celebrating our independence when millions of helpless [Palestinian brothers,] sisters and children [are] in dire need of freedom from their oppressors”. Calling out global greed and hunger for power, she said, “The rich are becoming richer and the poor are just dying”.

Pointing to Pakistan, Hussain said the trend continues here with “the power hungry [not caring] about right or wrong”. She said, “They only want more & more.” The model said she was “happy [to] live in an independent country” but that she was “feeling more and more encaged in this web of lies, deceit and might”. She ended her note by praying that we come to fight for what’s right.

Hussain is no stranger to advocacy for Palestine, having been seen at pro-Palestine demonstrations as far back as 2021. Even then, she was calling for a boycott of Israeli products while making the necessary distinction between Judaism as a religion and Israel as a state.

Palestine has been suffering from a catastrophic military campaign by the Israeli Defence Forces since October 2023. Over 61,000 people have been killed in Israeli attacks so far, including at least 54 in the last 24 hours, as per Al Jazeera.

So it is only NOW she has mixed feelings about celebrating. Her own country's rampant issues no different than a war on its own people by those in power with unlawful killings and abuse did not melt her heart or make her have "mixed feelings". Ignorance or perhaps the ability to ignore the injustices around you, showing selective outrage truly is a blessing. It's also be a blessing to be wealthy and powerful. Sudan Kashmir Myanmar Rwanda Congo Yemen To name a few. All lives should matter but don't.

Nadia Bibi, It is good that you feel about freedom for people in IoK. But please ask your husband to return the looted money to the real owners. Regards
