Meesha Shafi announces debut album Khilnay Ko — an exploration of ‘isolation, otherism, and abandonment’
Singer-songwriter Meesha Shafi has officially announced her first full-length album, Khilnay Ko, set to drop on all major streaming platforms on April 18.
Shafi shared the album art on Instagram and described the project as a “deeply introspective and therapeutic journey through the shadowed corridors of the human psyche.”
In her statement, she elaborated on the emotional terrain the album traverses: “This album is an exploration of isolation, otherism, mental health, abandonment, and the relentless tension between contrasting forces that shape our existence.”
It’s a powerful statement — one that hinted at work grounded not just in personal experience but also in collective, unspoken emotional realities.
She added that each track reflected “internal battles that so many face along their healing journey but rarely speak of — feelings of displacement, loneliness, and the overwhelming weight of being.”
Before the album announcement, Shafi shared what we can only call a teaser from the album. She also removed all previous posts from her Instagram, signalling a rebirth of sorts.
While Shafi has always been known for her commanding presence — whether in the feminist fire of ‘Rajkumari’ or the genre-blending energy of ‘Hot Mango Chutney Sauce’ — Khilnay Ko promises a shift in focus from external resistance to internal reckoning.
It’s been a while since her last release. In 2023, she sang the haunting OST for the ARY drama Jaisay Aapki Marzi, but otherwise, she’s kept a relatively low profile when it comes to music.
The album, therefore, feels not only like a comeback but also a culmination of survival and a kind of growth that can only happen in solitude.
With Khilnay Ko, Meesha Shafi isn’t just returning to music — she’s inviting listeners into the quiet corners of the soul, offering solidarity through sound.
