Salman Khan says he’s ready to work with Pakistani artists — if India allows it

Get them a visa and take permission from the government, he said during a recent press conference.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has once again expressed his willingness to collaborate with Pakistani artists, provided the Indian government grants them the necessary permissions to work in the country.

Speaking at a recent press conference for his upcoming film Sikandar, the actor addressed the restrictions in place since 2016, preventing collaborations between artists from Pakistan.

“Take the permission from here, and I am ready to work with them,” the Dabangg star said during his media interaction in Mumbai, per Filmfare. He added, “Or get them a visa and take permission from the government here.”

Displaying his characteristic wit, the actor quipped, “Or else I’ll play cricket.”

This is not the first time Khan has spoken in favour of Pakistani artists. Back in 2016, he took a stand against growing hostility towards them in India, stating, “They are artists, not terrorists. It’s the government that gives them permits and visas.

The ban on Pakistani artists working in India was imposed after a 2016 attack in Uri, which New Delhi blamed on Pakistan. For its part, Pakistan denied any role in the attack.

The Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPPA) subsequently announced a restriction on Pakistani actors, singers, and technicians from participating in Bollywood projects — a move seen as a politically motivated decision rather than one based on artistic considerations.

Despite this, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition in 2023 seeking a formal ban on Pakistani talent, reaffirming that artists should not be punished for diplomatic tensions.

However, the Indian film industry continues to maintain an unwritten rule of exclusion, bowing to nationalist sentiments.

Khan is currently gearing up for the release of Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss, on March 30.

India should do all to allow close relationships between people to people contact. Let Salman mingle with Pakistani artists. Open up trade & travel. Let there be harmony.

Mr Salman Khan is a national treasure and a very generous person. Fully agree with his thoughts and no doubt Pakistan has great talented artists. The issue India has is not with the people of Pakistan but the governance. If you come abroad you will see how friendly and loving the people relationships are. It’s sad that only in a foreign country we can do this. We are the same people. It is not acceptable for any foreign organization supporting murder of innocent Indians. India has no choice but to do whatever necessary to change this behaviour. National priorities must always come first before regional. It is for the people of Pakistan to rise up and demand better from their leaders, not from India. Aside from border states, the vast majority of Indians barely know anything about Pakistan let alone think about it. Most Indians have never even left their own state. The only thing we see are the killings and the chaos. I have taken some interest and find Pakistani music, your intellectuals and even your sense of humour very admirable! Most moderate Indians will be in favour of peace and harmony but not at the cost of innocent lives. In the same vein, most Indians also would not have any issues with the common Pakistani citizen striving to better his or her life and take care of their family. We are happy to accomplish this together. Jiyo aur jeene do!

There’s no scarcity of talented artists in India. No need to import sub-par talent from a hostile foreign country.

@LOVE INDIA — While I appreciate your concern about India’s secularism, I wish you had the same concern for Pakistan which has never been secular since its creation and where minorities are relegated to second class citizenry as per the constitution.

“participating in Bollywood projects — a move seen as a politically motivated“. Absolutely stupid comment - why should it not be “politically motivated” when this is an issue between two independent countries ?? Height of stupidity. Brainless statement.

At the moment, there is no benefit for India after dealing with Pakistan. Indians have left us behind and moving along. We should try to develop our own film industry instead of shamelssly looking for some handouts from Bollywood.

Bharath does not need to be secular at all. Bharath is doing great under Modi. Division was made on the basis of religion. If you have self respect then why are you pleading to get your people in Bharath. Even Salman Khan should also move to Pakistan, if he loves your country that much.
