Snow White producer’s son blames Rachel Zegler’s pro-Palestine remarks for film’s box office failure

Marc Platt's son accused Zegler of narcissism and dragging personal politics into a movie's promotion.

Jonah Platt, son of Snow White producer Marc Platt, has blamed star Rachel Zegler for the Disney remake’s weak box office collection, accusing her of “narcissism” and dragging “personal politics” into its promotion.

Platt, 38, is best known as the host of the podcast Being Jewish and his two-episode role in Netflix’s Uncoupled. According to a Variety report, Platt responded to an Instagram comment about his father allegedly flying to New York to ‘reprimand’ Zegler during the film’s promotion. Platt later deleted his reply.

Another Variety report said producer Marc’s meeting with Zegler was a failed attempt to get the actor to delete a social media post reading “and always remember, free Palestine.”

The post, originally published in August 2024, came at the same time as the release of the Snow White trailer. What stood out, however, was Zegler’s decision to voice her pro-Palestinian stance in the same thread where she talked about the movie’s trailer.

Despite pressure from Disney’s executives, Zegler didn’t delete her post.

In his since-deleted reply on Instagram, Jonah wrote, “Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to to fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for. This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office.

“Free speech does not meant you’re allowed to say whatever you want in your private employment without repercussions,” Jonah said.

“Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires at the risk of all the colleagues and crew and blue collar workers who depend on that movie to be successful. Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged.”

The highly anticipated live-action film has gained substantial buzz for its off-screen drama more than its fairytale plot line, including over the alleged tensions between leading stars pro-Palestine Zegler and pro-Israel Gal Gadot.

Gadot, who plays the Evil Queen in the film, infamously served two years in the Israel Defence Forces before rising to global stardom. She has been vocal in her support of Israel on her social media.

However, there are no reports that the producers of Snow White had any issues with her political statements.

Jonah’s comments quickly drew backlash. Netizens were quick to call him a “nepo” baby.

Some questioned why Gadot’s political statements on social media aren’t treated similarly by Disney while sharing side by side pictures of Zegler’s pro-Palestine post and Gadot’s pro-Israel post.

In the recent past, several other actors have been penalised for publicly voicing support for Palestine. Susan Sarandon was dropped by her Hollywood talent agency UTA for remarks at a pro-Palestine rally. Supermodel Bella Hadid was also dropped by Adidas from an advertising campaign after Israel criticised her choice of retro shoes referencing the 1972 Munich Olympics, where 11 Israeli athletes had been killed by Palestinian attackers.

How dare you demean Gal Gadot’s service to her country by calling it “infamous”. You are sickening.

Business and political views cannot be mixed during business hours. Business may or may not affect views, but views will definitely affect business.

If there is any contractual breach or negligence the in battle it out in court. Otherwise chalk it down to a business loss and move on. Not much else to do.

Most people won't watch it because of Gal Gadot and her stance with imperialism against the killing of 100,00 people so far over the last year alone There's a nice boycott that started with wonder woman 2. It's also her bad acting, she's not that great.

Gadot never tied her Israel comments to the film's publicity. That's a huge point differentiator and this article completely ignores it. It's also not really fair to compare gadot's situation - an Israeli woman who has lived with the conflict her entire life - with that of zegler, who is a cliche college-aged leftist who doesn't know the first thing about the Levant.
