Maya Ali won’t marry just to tick a box, she’ll marry when she finds the right person
Maya Ali has opened up about how she copes with the constant pressure to get married.
In a recent appearance on Nida Yasir’s Ramazan talk show Shan-e-Suhoor, the actor candidly shared how her parents often bring up her relationship status, gently nudging her toward marriage.
“In every namaz, my mother prays that I get married,” Ali said with a smile. “But it’s so difficult to explain to our elders that you can’t just get married for the sake of it.”
While assuring everyone that she’s not against the idea of marriage, Ali said she firmly believes it will happen when the time is right. “When the right person comes into your life at the right time, it’ll be effortless.”
Reflecting on what makes a marriage successful, the Diyar-e-Dil star stressed that companionship and mutual respect matter far more than romantic notions of love. “He needs to understand me, my work, and most importantly, he must value the woman in his life — that’s something every girl deserves. If I find someone like that, I’ll have no issues.”
Ali also pointed out that while society pushes women toward marriage, constantly bringing in religion and fate, it fails to take into account that it’s all predestined. “Our society talks a lot about kismet and religion. But no one considers that it’s already written — when and who you marry is written by God. It’ll happen when it’s destined to happen.”
Recalling how the pressure on her to get married intensified when her younger brother tied the knot, Ali shared, “People started asking me why I’m not settling down. But how does that even make sense? It’ll happen when the time is right.”
Concluding on a lighter note, Ali said with a laugh, “The day I find a good man who respects me and my mother — and of course, I’ll respect him too — I’ll do it. The day violins start playing in my heart, I’ll do it.”
