Fawad Khan, Vaani Kapoor wrap up Abir Gulaal shoot in London: Filmfare
Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor’s highly-anticipated film Abir Gulaal has officially completed shooting after an intense 40-day schedule in London, according to Filmfare.
Fans of the stars have been eagerly awaiting updates about this unique cross-cultural project, and the news of the film wrapping up production brings it one step closer to its release.
Directed by Aarti S. Bagdi of Chalti Rahe Zindagi fame, Abir Gulaal explores the journey of two individuals whose paths cross unexpectedly, leading them to help each other heal.
“Love blossoms as an unexpected consequence,” Bagdi said, according to Variety.
Produced by Vivek B. Agrawal, Avantika Hari, and Rakesh Sippy under Indian Stories, A Richer Lens, and Aarjay Pictures, the film promises to deliver an emotionally rich narrative backed by stellar performances.
Khan takes on the role of a UK-based chef, a departure from his usual characters, adding another layer to his impressive repertoire.
The immediate question on everyone’s mind is, when can we see Abir Gulaal? According to sources at Filmfare, the film’s makers plan to first showcase it at international film festivals, building momentum and acclaim before its theatrical release.
As of now, Indian audiences can expect the movie to hit theatres in the latter half of 2025. It is unclear if the film will be made available to Pakistani audiences.
“Fawad has a massive global fan base, and we anticipate that audiences and his fans will wholeheartedly embrace this film,” the producers shared in October.
The completion of Abir Gulaal is particularly noteworthy given the socio-political backdrop. Since 2016, an unofficial ban has kept Pakistani artists from working in Indian films. However, a significant turn of events in 2023 saw the Bombay High Court dismiss a petition seeking to formalise this ban.
The court affirmed the unifying power of arts, stating, “Activities like arts, music, sports, and culture rise above nationalities, cultures, and nations, truly bringing about peace and harmony.”
