Hania Aamir doesn’t cover up blemishes onscreen unless she really has to
Actor and social media sensation Hania Aamir has once again proven that beauty isn’t just skin-deep. By embracing her natural appearance on and off screen, she’s sending a powerful message to women everywhere: beauty doesn’t require us to be flawless, and true confidence shines through authenticity.
In an interview with Faridoon Shahryar, Aamir recounted a time in 2019 when her skin broke out and she posted a picture online of her bare skin to let her followers know that breaking out was normal.
“There was a time, it’s an old story not everyone would know, but my skin started breaking out a lot. And, when you’re on screen, nobody finds out. There’s makeup, the camera, and someone puts a filter and doesn’t take closeups, but I started feeling like I was living a lie. Like I was lying to the people who were following me. So one day I took a picture of my skin and I posted it and I was like, you know what, this is what I’m going through and this is nothing to be ashamed of,” she explained.
Despite facing criticism, Aamir revealed her bare skin on social media. “A lot of people tried telling me to do this and do that, I was shamed a lot. So I decided that I would not stay sad if my skin broke out and neither would I let anyone else feel the same way about themselves. I tried to do my best with the influence I had then, and I tried to spread that kind of skin positivity, if I may call it that.”
In 2024, with a renewed sense of confidence, Aamir chose not to conceal minor blemishes while filming her latest show Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum. “Since then, my skin has cleared up, but even if I get a mark or two now — if you guys have seen Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, you’ll notice that if I had a mark on my face, it has not been covered up. That is because of my stubbornness. It’s because I’ve been through a bad phase, that led me to make a pact; unless something on my face could distract viewers from the scene or the dialogue, I wouldn’t cover it up.”
This reluctance to cover up her blemishes is Aamir’s way of advocating for inclusivity in showbiz, hoping young girls would look at her and understand that they don’t need flawless skin to pursue acting. “I don’t want girls to think that until they are ‘perfect looking’ they cannot work in this field. That’s also why in most of my videos, I don’t wear makeup. So that everyone feels comfortable and knows that she’s an actress but she’s also human who can joke around, laugh at herself, and do serious work.”
With 16.3 million followers, Aamir is Pakistan’s most-followed actor on Instagram, and clearly people follow her for more than glamorous pictures — they relate with her authentic content. By promoting authenticity over falling prey to the stringent beauty standards of an often image-focused industry, Aamir isn’t just shaping her own career — she’s encouraging a more inclusive and genuine representation of beauty in the public eye.
