Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr calls for medicine donations as heavy rains lash Dadu
As torrential rains wreak havoc in Sindh, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr, on behalf of his Bhulan Bachao campaign, has made a heartfelt appeal on Instagram for medicine donations for the people of Dadu.
The region has been severely impacted by the ongoing rains, causing widespread distress and suffering. Bhutto shared a list of essential medicines that need to be donated urgently, urging everyone to contribute whatever they can.
“The more the merrier,” Bhutto wrote in his Instagram post, emphasising the urgency of the situation. “Medicines are listed in the next slides. Needed by September 2. Rains have affected many people in Dadu, and our outreach programme needs an extra push. Please HELP!” he asked.
Bhutto. highlighted that his team is focusing on immediate relief efforts and encouraged people to donate by dropping off the required items at his home, 70 Clifton, in Karachi. “We don’t need your money, we need medicines,” he said.
“Due to the torrential rains, our Bhulan camps are moving to Dadu. That region was the most affected during the floods last year. So please donate however much you can before September 2. It is an emergency situation; there is rain. We do require your help,” he added.
One hundred villages were inundated in Dadu, Sehwan and Manjhand talukas in the kacha area along the Indus River when a medium flood passed from the Dadu-Moro bridge.
On Thursday, the areas received light to moderate rain.
In Dadu district, 50 villages of Moundar, KT Jatoi, Jhaloo, Purano Deero and Amniani; in Sehwan taluka 40 and in Jamshoro district 10 villages were inundated.
The Bhulan Bachao organisation was founded by Bhutto, his sister Fatima, and their friend Menaal Munshey last August.
The initiative is named after the Indus River Dolphin, which also serves as the mascot of the foundation. Bhulan Bachao describes itself as Sindh’s first locally initiated wildlife foundation, uniquely linking humanitarian concerns with environmental conservation.
Their efforts are geared towards operationalising and implementing pro-nature and pro-people laws, preserving cultural integrity, and biodiversity, and reinvigorating indigenous visual cultures and crafts.
In addition to their environmental goals, the foundation has a strong focus on disaster relief and preparedness. They aim to adopt a solution-oriented approach in their work, building evidence to support effective interventions in times of crisis.
This appeal for aid is not an isolated effort by Bhutto and his team. During the catastrophic floods of 2022, the trio formed the Indus Relief initiative to raise funds by auctioning unique experiences, providing much-needed support to the victims.
