Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr, Fatima Bhutto’s Bulhan Foundation aims to foster compassion for all living beings
Artist Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Jr has announced the launch of the Bulhan Foundation — an organisation begun by him, his sister Fatima Bhutto and friend Menaal Munshey.
In a video posted on his Instagram account, he said the aim of the Bulhan Foundation is to foster a culture of care and compassion for all living beings — human and non-human.
The mascot of the foundation, which launched on August 15, is the Indus River Dolphin. It describes itself as Sindh’s first locally initiated wildlife foundation, linking humanitarian concerns with those of the environment.
According to the foundation’s Instagram, they seek to “operationalise and implement pro-nature and pro-people laws”.
They also look towards a kind of development that does not erase “our cultural integrity and biodiversity but instead preserves and heightens wildlife.”
The foundation also believes that preserving indigenous visual cultures and reinvigorating crafts is core to protecting living dignity.
It also discusses disaster relief and preparedness in its philosophy as well as its aim to build evidence and adopt a solution-oriented approach in our work.
This isn’t the first time the trio have gotten together to work for Pakistan. During the recent floods, they formed the Indus Relief 2022 to auction experiences to raise funds for victims of the floods.
