Review: Do Me A Flavour knows how to do burgers

There's a new comfort food delivery joint in town and it's got something for everyone.
Updated 10 Jul, 2024

Do Me A Flavour is a new delivery/takeaway burger place in Karachi and they sent us some of their favourite items on the menu to try out. Long story short — we were pretty impressed with the burgers but felt the sides weren’t all that great.

The restaurant is available on Foodpanda and their website till 1am and claims to serve comfort food so you know Images had to put that claim to the test.

The team at Do Me A Flavour told us that if your order is above Rs3,000, you can use a code — FEAST25 — to get 25 per cent off on their website, so that’s a plus.

On to the review! They sent us:

  • Beef Bacon & Rocket Double Burger
  • Chimichurri Beef Burger Double
  • Lemon Pepper Chicken Burger
  • Korean Chicken Burger
  • Nashville Mac n Cheese
  • Pizza Fries

Nashville Mac n Cheese

Price — Rs590

Siham: This was okay, pretty average as far as mac n cheese goes. It could have used a little bit more flavour in the pasta and perhaps more seasoning in the chicken, making it a bit spicier.

Mashael: The Nashville Mac n Cheese was alright, but nothing out of the ordinary. In my opinion, it could’ve done with better quality cheese, and more seasoning. However, the biggest letdown with this dish was the Nashville chicken on top of the pasta — it didn’t taste like Nashville hot chicken at all and I was so disappointed because who doesn’t love spicy fried chicken?! More seasoning and better cheese. That’s what this dish needs.

Asfa: The Nashville Mac n Cheese didn’t hit the spot the way I expected. It was a little too bland and milky for me. This could be a preference thing but I wish the chicken could be a bit more flavourful or crispy to balance the flavour.

Pizza Fries

Price — Rs540

Siham: This was also fine. I think Do Me A Flavour does burgers wayyy better than sides.

Mashael: Not to be too Gen Z about this, but the pizza fries were mid at best, but that’s also because I’m not a fan of pizza fries as a concept. This particular serving could’ve used more sauce, cheese and overall pizza vibes. The fries underneath were just…plain fries. Maybe layering it would be a good idea — with a nice marinara and some good cheese. I liked that their fries had chicken though. I agree with Siham, this place does burgers best.

Asfa: The pizza fries were basic. The cheese was a bit too sticky and the combination of things didn’t make for a great fry-eating experience. Perhaps a little bit of sauce could do this recipe some good.

Lemon Pepper Chicken Burger

Price — Rs590

Siham: I liked this one quite a bit. It looks like a zinger but doesn’t taste like one, which is a plus point in my opinion. The chicken was cooked well — which a lot of places fail to do and end up sending you a stringy fat-covered mess — and the flavour was light. I expected it to be a heavy, fried burger but it was light and nice. There wasn’t a lot of lemon pepper here though, it was mainly lemon, which was fine by me. This was my favourite chicken burger.

Mashael: I’m going to be honest, I didn’t have many thoughts about this other than — this is better than your typical, usual fried chicken burgers. The chicken itself was cooked well and was nice and lean, with no gross bits invading the patty. The slight zest was enjoyable. I would’ve liked the lemon pepper to shine through a little more, but even without it, this was a pretty good burger. Skip the international fast-food chains, and give this a shot instead.

Asfa: This was a nice alternative to the KFC zinger burger. The fried chicken and fillings made for a crispy and creamy combo. There was only a hint of lemon that left a unique aftertaste. I was quite impressed with this one, especially because the chicken wasn’t stretchy or overcooked — a common mistake in most zinger burgers.

Chimichurri Beef Burger Double

Price — Rs790

Siham: This was my favourite beef burger they sent us. It was heavier on the mayo but once you took a second bite, it had a tangy sort of taste that I liked. The burger was quite big — I would definitely have ordered the single patty instead. The patties were cooked well and were flavourful, and that’s all you need in a good beef burger.

Mashael: This was a decent beef burger, although it wasn’t anything too groundbreaking. If you’re a burger purist, this should be your order — however, ask them to go easy on the mayonnaise because I did think there was an overwhelming amount of it. Like Siham (and I’m not just agreeing with her because she’s my boss), I would have ordered the single patty, because this one had loads of meat. But hey, if you’re into that, you should get this! The patty was cooked really well and the meat itself was seasoned to perfection — not too much, not too little, just how a beef burger patty should be.

Asfa: As a person who doesn’t like beef burgers — go ahead, call me crazy — Do Me a Flavour’s Chimichurri Beef Burger Double came as a pleasant surprise. The beef was well cooked so this burger had the perfect juice-to-chunk ratio. The mayo and dressing added a unique touch because it’s not something characteristic of beef burgers.

Beef Bacon & Rocket Double Burger

Price — Rs890

Mashael: This was definitely my favourite item out of all the things they sent us! The beef was cooked to perfection and the bacon bits added some nice texture. The amount of sauce was perfect and didn’t overpower the other ingredients. If you love meat, then this is definitely the burger for you.

Siham: I liked the way the beef was cooked in this one, as well as the addition of chopped pickles. I didn’t love the bacon bits as much as the others, but overall, this was a good burger.

Asfa: The reason why I’m averse to beef burgers is because they’re usually very chewy. But this eatery knows how to cook beef so safe to say, I liked this burger too. Also, the bacon added a nice texture to it, making it crispy and flavourful.

Korean Chicken Burger

Price — Rs590

Asfa: This was my personal favourite, not just because of the texture of the chicken or the fillings but because I’m a fan of spice and zest. This burger was neither too spicy nor too zesty. It was juicy and crispy complete with pickles and Korean sauce. Perfect for those looking for a kick.

Mashael: This burger was pretty delicious and one of the better Korean fried chicken burgers I’ve had in Karachi. The coating on the patty was slightly soggy, but that’s just a misfortune of getting it delivered. The Korean sauce on the chicken was decent and had a good kick to it, with some sweet notes, which may be better if they were more subtle. The overall flavour was not too overwhelming, which I enjoyed. My only recommendation would be a slightly wider and thinner patty so the burger is easier to eat.

Siham: This one was a bit too sweet for my liking, but the general consensus is that it was a good burger. It was a bit soggy because we got to it last but overall, it was good. I liked how they had pickles in this one too — everything could use more pickles in my opinion!

Yes. There is such a thing as beef bacon. Just like turkey bacon. It's how the meat is cured. [spices and such.] And sliced thick or thin.

Yep. It's beef bacon. All hinges on the curing of the meat. Instead of pork meat you're replacing it with beef. Or even turkey meat. Obviously the method and spices remain the same.

@Abdul Basit Yes, Beef bacon!!! Try it! Why is that a shock to you? For your information, you can can also get turkey bacon which with beef bacon are used a lot in halal fast food cuisines. It is like how you can get lamb CHOPS or MINCED beef/lamb/chicken, lamb/beef RIBS or lamb/beef/turkey SAUSAGES/PEPPERONI/SALAMI. Bacon is a cut. The animal can be according to individual dietary requirements. Just like we have Siri paye based on cow feet, other cultures also incorporate feet of animals such as pork, chicken etc. If you visit a Muslim country outside Pakistan like in the ME or Turkey you will find such items in abundance.
