Naseem Shah’s tears are breaking Pakistanis’ hearts

The bowler was dubbed a 'true champion' after giving it his all against India.
10 Jun, 2024

Pakistani pacer Naseem Shah has left cricket fans heartbroken after he teared up following Pakistan’s nail-biting loss against India in last night’s ICC T20 World Cup match. Shah appeared inconsolable as India won the match by six runs.

Pictures of him crying went viral as the match ended, and Pakistanis couldn’t help but shower him with their love and support.

On the pitch, even the Indian team was spotted consoling Shah, with captain Rohit Sharma patting him on the back. Fans were quick to highlight that Shah’s efforts earned him “respect and appreciation from the rivals”. We’re not going to lie, seeing how dejected the pacer looked as he shook hands with Indian cricketers almost had us in tears too.

It’s hurting our hearts just looking at these pictures and reliving the trauma. We hope you’re grateful for this article because we hate looking at Naseem Shah upset.

Musicians Hassan and Roshaan declared that their next album would be dedicated to Shah. They weren’t alone in expressing such sentiments, as another X (formerly Twitter) user proclaimed that they would name their daughter after the cricketer.

We have an inkling that Naseem is about to become a really popular name really soon.

What made the whole situation worse was that Shah performed outstandingly in the match. He made 10 runs off four balls, including two boundaries, while Shahdab Khan, Imad Wasim and Iftikhar Ahmed combined “couldn’t hit even one boundary in 39 balls faced”.

Fans of the sport — including those “ridiculously impartial” to Pakistan’s performances — emphasised how “heartbreaking” the scene was and criticised the performances of batsmen who fell short, with some urging them to “resign gracefully” to make room for younger, better players.

Others called for Shah to be named captain of the Pakistan cricket team as he appeared to be the only one who cared about the outcome of the match.

Support continued to pour in long after the match was over, with people praising his “warrior spirit” as the only positive.

“Though Pakistan lost, Naseem Shah emerged as a true winner,” a netizen wrote, and we couldn’t agree more.

Meanwhile, fans were ready to give their whole hearts to Shah. Literally.

“You’re a hero. The whole country is behind you, Naseem Shah.”

We hope the cricketer feels better soon, but more so we hope the Pakistan Cricket Board is paying for his therapy.

Well done Naseem Shah. Keep it up and hang on tough. Remember, winning and losing is part of the game. At the end of the day, it's the spirit of participation and trying your best which matters.

You must perform and show the results NOT tears. Bunch of crying babies, go and sit home with mama.

In my opinion, T20 cricket is designed more to entertain audiences and not meant for talented and skilful players. In 20 overs scoring big is the only criteria and win or loss is just consequential. We should not attach too much importance to it and stop criticizing non performers whereby we will only be demoralizing them.

Would Pakistan be declared T20 WC winners if the entire team cried before every match? They'd be world champions.

The two problems with the team. The management, I can write a book on this. Why is it that we take unfit players to these big tournaments? Second our players are mentally very weak, they don't seem to use their head. There was no need to play the shot that Rizwan got out to. All we needed was singles, and you always get a 4 here and there. So no need to go for the big shots, specially when we don't have a finisher.

Showing emotions is common for some but is it the first time he was crying?! He needs to grow up and become used to the match results while playing against superior teams. Yes, most likely, he won't be able to see other major centers at this T20 tournament.

He is young and plays naturally. I’m afraid that he will soon become institutionalized in the midst of the other useless Pakistani players.

We only lost because babar azam Did not give Naseem and shaheen earlier chance to bat inspite of knowing they are hard hitters. If we have to loose even when babar is in the team why not loose by replacing him with a new player

Naseem is the only true patriot in this team. All others are just overpaid club level cricketers. Each and everyone running the show at PCB should be fired and the entire cricket structure starting from the chairman PCB should be revamped. Will it actually happen, probably not. Well done Naseem Shah.

There needs to be accountability otherwise such heart break for Pakistani fans will continue to happen. Remove those from the team that have proved worthless and not fit for a national side again and again. And definitely fire all those at the helm of PCB.

Our miserable budget for sport should not be used for cricket - big groups, spoiled people. It should be invested for other sports and for women teams. This team needs a lot of change, good training and psychological help. Probably we can show ourselves after five years at world arena - if we have a winning team to present. Until now we are throwing out good money to buy heartach.

The bowlers need to bat and batters need to bowl is how you make champion teams. Naseem did his part. Both India and Pakistan neglect this development with predictable results.
