Shah Rukh Khan hospitalised in Ahmedabad due to heatstroke
Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was hospitalised due to heatstroke on Wednesday afternoon, PTI reported. The actor is likely to be discharged today, a police official confirmed.
The superstar was admitted to the K D Hospital in Ahmedabad. The multi-speciality hospital has not yet issued a statement about Khan’s health condition.
Khan was in Ahmedabad on Tuesday to attend an Indian Premier League (IPL) match between his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
“Khan is still undergoing treatment at the hospital. He may get discharged today,” Ahmedabad (Rural) Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Jat said, per the Indian Express.
Khan’s manager Pooja Dadlani shared an update with the star’s fans on Thursday afternoon. In an Instagram Story, she thanked all of Khan’s well-wishers, writing, “To all of Mr Khan’s fans and well-wishers — he’s doing well. Thank you for your love, prayers and concern.”
Several parts of Gujarat have been affected by a severe heatwave. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there was a heatwave in Ahmedabad on Tuesday and Wednesday with the maximum recorded temperatures being 45.2 and 45.9 degrees Celsius respectively.
Videos shared by the official X account of KKR showed Khan celebrating his team’s victory with a lap of honour, alongside his children Suhana Khan and AbRam Khan. The actor also greeted fans and players at the stadium.
There is also a massive heatwave in Pakistan with mercury touching the dreaded 45-degree mark in parts of Punjab, with three heatwaves forecast over the next four weeks.
Parts of Sindh are seeing temperatures as high as 47°C as well. These lethal conditions can test the limits of human endurance, making it essential to provide extra care and support to those exposed to the sun, be it sportsmen, workers or delivery folks.
It is, therefore, imperative to stay hydrated and indoors as much as possible. Matches can be delayed, schools can take a break and work can wait. The most vulnerable in our society during these times is the labour force.
Workers are expected to put in hours of physical work outdoors with minimal breaks, even during peak heat hours. As temperatures soar, here is how you can take care of them:
Remember to drink lots of fluids, wear sunscreen and try to stay in the shade!
