Veteran actor Khalid Butt passes away in Lahore

The Khaie star had been suffering from liver and kidney-related diseases.

Veteran actor and director Khalid Saleem Butt passed away in Lahore Thursday night at the age of 76.

APP reported the cause of death as complications from liver and kidney-related diseases.

Butt began his career in the 70s and appeared in both Urdu and Punjabi films, as well as TV series. His most recent production was the on air Khaie, in which he played Faysal Quraishi’s father.

He also directed a film over the course of his career and was a recipient of the Pride of Performance award for his services to the arts.

He was well known for his PTV productions Jangal Pura (1997), Boota to Toba Tek Singh (1999), and Landa Bazaar (2002).

Condolences poured in on social media from his fellow actors.

Quraishi, his Khaie co-star, posted a lengthy video on Instagram in which he reminisced about the actor and their journey together. They both acted in Boota to Toba Tek Singh together as well.

He discussed how Butt would be quite unwell during the shoot and was in pain.

Condolences were also shared online by actors Hina Khawaja Bayat, Sami Khan, Tipu Sharif and Saba Qamar.

Butt is survived by his widow, two sons and two daughters.
