Turkish restaurateur Salt Bae pledges to feed 5,000 earthquake survivors every day

People from around the world have come together to help Turkish residents of Hatay and other provinces affected by 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkiye and Syria on Feb 6. In the wake of the catastrophe, rescue workers, emergency supplies and other types of support have been dispatched to the quake-hit region. Stepping in to help the survivours, Turkish restaurateur Nusret Gokce, popularly known as Salt Bae, has volunteered to help his countrymen by feeding 5,000 people from quake-hit areas every day.

The Turkiye-Syria earthquake shook the world with its devastating impact. As of Thursday, the death toll has passed 41,000, of which 35,418 deaths have been reported in Turkey and more than 5,800 in Syria, according to Al Jazeera.

On Monday, the well-known restaurateur took to Instagram and shared a video clip of a mobile kitchen from his restaurant Nusr Et preparing meals for earthquake survivors.

“We started serving hot food to more people, targeting 5,000 people every day,” he wrote.

Just a day before the truck reached the quake-hit region, Salt Bae had given a virtual tour of the mobile kitchen on his Instagram and had written, “It will be the most important and meaningful service in the world for us.”

The restaurateur has also been sharing video messages of celebrities such as singer J Balvin, designer Tommy Hilfiger, footballer Riyad Mahrez, Real Madrid’s Luka Modric, former Brazilian footballer Roberto Carlos, Colombian footballer Radamel Falcao, American ring announcer Bruce Buffer, British broadcaster Piers Morgan and Italian football manager Roberto Mancini who sent prayers for people affected by the earthquake in Turkiye.

Turkish chef CZN Burak has also contributed to help the people affected by earthquake in Turkiye. Last week, he shared video clips of the restaurant staff loading trucks with basic food items and drinking water for Hatay and other provinces of Turkiye that were hit by the earthquake. On Monday, CZN Burak shared video clips of him preparing meals for survivors. He had captioned the video, “May God bless everyone who contributed.”
