With the rupee’s value at an all-time low, memes are all Pakistani Twitter can afford in this economy
Breaking records is a good thing, unless it’s your local currency that’s plummeting to an all-time low. The Pakistani rupee has dropped by a margin large enough to have adults hold their heads in devastation. While Pakistani Twitter is outraged — and rightfully so — some netizens have resorted to memes because really, isn’t that what’s most affordable at the moment?
On Friday, the rupee’s value further declined in the interbank market, trading at Rs266.6 per dollar. It had depreciated by Rs24.54 to a record low of Rs255.43 just yesterday, the largest single-day depreciation in both absolute and percentage terms since the new exchange rate system was introduced in 1999. Netizens are smiling through the pain — or at least trying to by depicting the upsetting situation humorously.
Someone take away its wings, please.
Fine. Dandy. Grape.
We breathe and there’s a dollar hike.
PLEASE.
One person’s source of ecstasy is another’s source of misery.
Well…
On a more serious note, the impact is monumental and Twitter users can’t help but highlight their frustration.
Prayer circle for the Pakistani rupee please.
