From OTT to TV: Mahira Khan and Nina Kashif’s mini series Baarwan Khiladi is coming to TV
Actor turned producer Mahira Khan’s first project behind the camera was a not so “sanitised version of a cricket story” called Baarwan Khiladi. It was made under her production label Soul Fry Films with Nina Kashif. The series initially released on OTT platform Tapmad and is now making its way to our TV screens.
On Friday Express TV shared promo clip of the show on YouTube and announced that the show will premiere on August 11 at 8pm and will air every Thursday at the same time.
The promo highlights the bias and prejudice faced by promising new cricketers in a sport ruled by powerful and well-connected people. The series is based on a small-town man named Akbar (Danyal Zafar) who wants nothing more than to qualify for the national cricket team. At the same time, the series also shows the other side of the coin and what power can make you do.
The series revolves around the Shaheen XI team that has 12 players, all of whom have qualified for a league. While the story narrates what a young man with dreams has to do in the midst of rivalry, power and an unfair system, it also sheds light on the what one has to face to even qualify for the playing 11.
The official cast includes Zafar, Shahveer Jafry, Kinza Hashmi, Sarmad Khoosat, Saba Faisal, Hina Ashfaque, Mohsin Gillani, Shafqat Cheema, Mira Sethi, Usman Peerzada, Fawad Jalal, Salman Butt, Meer Yusuf, Ali Tahir, Khaqan Shahnawaz, Zarrar Khan, Sajjad ul Haq, Ali Abbas, Waqar Ali, Hammad Akmal and Umer Hayat Chaudhry.
Cricketer Shoaib Malik and actor Fawad Khan also made guest appearances in the mini series. Baarwan Khiladi has been written by Shahid Dogar and directed by Adnan Sarwar, who was behind Motorcycle Girl and Shah.
