Dear readers, Lady Whisteldown and new couple are set to return in regency drama Bridgerton as streaming site Netflix revealed season 3 is officially in production.

On Wednesday, the streaming site revealed behind the scenes footage of the cast returning to the sets of the period drama that last told the tale of Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma’s (Simon Ashley) love story.

With the two-finger sign changed to three, a clip where Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton are sitting in a carriage tells us that this season, Penelope Featherington (Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) will be the stars of the show. Though in book order, Benedict Bridgerton was meant to have his moment first.

New cast and characters are also heading our way this season. Daniel Francis, Sam Phillips, and James Phoon have all signed on for the new season.

Francis of the miniseries Stay Close will be playing Marcus Anderson who is described to have a charismatic presence and can light up any room he enters. Phillips of The Crown will play Lord Debling, a genial lord with unusual interests. Phoon of show Wreck will play Harry Dankworth who lacks wittiness and intelligence but makes his way through life with his good looks.

According to Variety, in season 3 Penelope has given up on her long-held crush Colin after hearing his belittling comments about her behind her back. At the end of the second season, she decided to continue on as Lady Whistledown and had hoped to find an eligible husband who supports both her and Lady Whistledown.

In the new season, Colin has returned from his summer travels and wants to hear from his friend Penelope but this time she’s giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back their friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope to make her confident enough to find a suitor. But while training her, he must figure out his feelings for Penelope.

Along with romance comes drama as the show last left Penelope and her best friend Eloise (Claudia Jessie) at a standstill after she finds out who has been penning the gossip paper in the city all along. The revelation will go beyond Eloise in the upcoming season with Penelope’s growing presence in society making it more difficult to keep her alter ego a secret.

The show is being produced by Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers and Tom Verica of Shondaland. Netflix’s most streamed series is rumoured to go on air by spring or summer 2023.
