The teaser for Alia Bhatt's first thriller Darlings is out and it reveals her and Shefali Shah in a daughter and mother role, taking on two suspicious men played by Vijay Varma and Roshan Mathew.
On Tuesday, the first teaser was shared on all online platforms by the cast as well as Netflix India. Bhatt took it to Instagram and wrote, "It’s just a tease Darlings".
The video received comments from filmmaker Zoya Akhtar who said she "can't wait" for it to release, singer Sophie Choudry and actor Rakul Preet.
In the teaser Bhatt is narrating a story of a frog and a scorpion while it's illustrated by her and a man she meets. After romancing for a while the two get married with her mother's blessing but not long after their marriage, things take a turn for the worse for the couple and people around them. There are secrets, doubts and sinister intentions that consume them all.
The story narrated by Bhatt about the frog and scorpion is about a predator who would never give up its true nature and how the two could never be friends. As the teaser approaches the last few scenes, Bhatt's story about a scorpion ends and it's hinted that she may be the predator.
What we know so far is that Bhatt will be seen as Badru Qureshi and Shah as Rukhsar Akhtar and that Bhatt will romance Varma who will be seen as Gaurav Mathur. Mathew plays Akash Sharma. Much about his character hasn't been revealed but ominous music being played during a scene in the teaser hints at his role being connected with Bhatt's Badru.
The film is being directed by Jasmeet K Reen and produced by Gauri Khan under her and Shah Rukh Khan's production label Red Chillies Entertainment, Bhatt herself and Gaurav Verma. Darlings is an OTT project which will be released on Netflix on August 5.
