Dear online trolls, Hassan Ali's wife, her clothes and her pictures are none of your business

Dear online trolls, Hassan Ali's wife, her clothes and her pictures are none of your business

Pakistani Twitter rushed to the cricketer's defence, telling naysayers off for slut-shaming his wife.
21 Jun, 2022

Cricketer Hassan Ali posted some great vacation photos with his wife, Samiya, and infant daughter but they have unprecedentedly become a breeding ground for internet trolls taking digs at his wife's clothes and pose — men have officially hit a new low. We've said this before but we're going to have to repeat it — a woman's clothes are no one's business except her own.

On Monday, Ali posted photos with his wife and daughter on a boat in Hunza and instead of appreciating the scenic family photos like normal people, many netizens — mostly men — dropped down in the replies to slut-shame the cricketer's wife, questioning her morals, intentions and character, amongst other things.

From equating Ali's gairat [respect] to his wife's clothes to asking the cricketer to cover his wife, the trolls went all out with their suggestions that no one asked for.

Though there is a large stream of tweets reflecting this disgusting mentality, the other half of Twitter jumped to the family's defence. They called out the internet trolls while reassuring the cricketer that there is nothing wrong here — just the "gutter mentality" of the moral brigade that loves to overstep.

An excellent observation on this user's part.

Take two for the men who didn't spare Esra Bilgic. Unneeded and unnecessary.

Women have legs — surprise, surprise!

Sweetie, your "harassy" "gutter mentality" is showing.

Can PEMRA look into this?

Absolutely.

Ending note: Stop. Objectifying. Women. Just stop talking if the subject matter is none of your business. Someone else's body is not your concern. What they do with it, how they dress it is entirely their choice and you infringing on that choice is a violation of their basic human rights.

Sitting behind a computer and spitting hate may be very easy but it can have long-term repercussions that another person has to take conscious measures to heal from. Be kind and stop being a troll.

I don't understand why people first post their personal moments on social media and then expect to have the positive remarks only. When someone is opening his/her personal life to public then expect everything and ignore what he/she doesn't like. Preferred way is to keep your personal life personal. Yes, in that case someone has to sacrifice social media following and the limelight.

@Faisal Salman Have you lost your brain somewhere? Why wouldn't someone post about their life on their social media? Don't you know is that how social media works? It's the same as you are commenting on this article, however stupid though. Post a picture doesn't allow anyone to target someone's personal choices. If anyone doesn't like anything, scroll past it. Yours is the same mentality that says women get r*ped because of the clothes they wear. Unlearn your misogyny!!!

When people post, share or open up their lives on social media, they are opening themselves to feedback and comments. Feedback could be positive and healthy, or unfortunately, it could be negative, insulting and or personal. Its difficult to police or prevent people posting abuse, so you have two options, a) don't share your personal, family life on social media, b) share on social media and ignore the trolls!! People can't have it both ways, i.e. they want to share and show off on social media, get free PR, yet at the same time take offence when trolls post abuse or negative comments.

1. Nothing wrong with photos (from my pov). 2. However, what others already said, if you post comment/photos on public sites, others have right to post their reaction/comments to it. Ignore/remove the ones you don't like (and Hassan Ali/wife might have done just that, I don't know if he/she responded). 3. Same right that the writer of this article has to then criticize the people/comments that were posted publicly.

When someone assumes public representation there is always a cost involved, one has to be sensitive to public sentiments, they can have a private life then no one should be allowed to comment on it. It is ridiculous to think that someone gets it both ways. In the US people do a lot in their private life but when they become or aspire to become public figures they have to abide by the rules of the society at large and otherwise get condemned. All those claiming it is her right to wear whatever she wants not anyone else's should also understand she publicized those photos as a representation of a public icon and people have the right to say it is not their representation. Keep your private life away from public then intruders will be ashamed.

@Faisal Salman - Them posting "their" vacation pictures on "their" account is "their" business. No one is tagging these individuals or seeks their advice. Just because you see something online does not make it your responsibility to correct or criticize. The question is not about positive comments, its about when we will learn to control "ourselves" and learn that staying quiet is also an option. Just like no one tells you what to wear, this person has the same "right".

Well. When you showcase your private moments on social media, they become everybody's business, like it or not. People will not seek approval of the liberal brigade before posting comments - they will just speak their minds, like everyone else. You can't selectively vilify one set of comments. This whole sorry business of "twitterati rushing to defend someone who put their pictures for public use" is just getting tiresome. As for objectifying women - well, they are FAR MORE objectified by you guys rather than someone who merely comments on a picture
