One Direction fans have being going through it these days, after Liam Payne's podcast shattered their dreams of the boyband being friends or ever getting back together. But fans' wounds were soothed when Zayn Malik posted a video of himself crooning part of the band's song 'You & I'.

On Saturday, the singer shared a video clip of him singing the main hook of the song that was released nine years ago when he was still part of the band with Harry Styles, Liam Payne Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan.

Fans of the band, called Directioners, have a soft spot for the song and were "happy and proud" to see Malik belt the high note.

For another Twitter user, Malik is an "unproblematic king" who made the "world go bonkers with a six second video by barely acknowledging One Direction's existence."

For another user, Malik singing the high note was the "highlight of her day".

Another shared a throwback of the high note he sung in 2014 versus now.

This Twitter user took Malik's spontaneous post as a "sign", perhaps hoping for the band to reunite.

One user thought there was a secret afoot.

Some users were hyperventilating.

Another knew exactly what song (or portion of a song) would be playing if Vecna tries to get them.

The 'Dusk Till Dawn' singer quit One Direction in 2015. “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight,” he had said in a statement released by One Direction on social media.

“I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world. The four of us will now continue. We’re looking forward to recording the new album and seeing all the fans on the next stage of the world tour,” the post read.

Soon after other band members also launched their solo careers and Malik's is doing well, if his eight-second video garnering about 5.6 million views in seven hours is anything to go by.

Two years ago, the band posted photos from their music videos and concerts, some including Malik, celebrating 10 years to the band.
