Bollywood's Kangana Ranaut fooled by fake video, calls Qatar Airways CEO an 'idiot of a man'

The controversy began when an Indian man called for a boycott of Qatar following outrage over BJP leaders' anti-Islam comments.

Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, who often makes headlines for her controversial remarks, has once again landed in hot water over her remarks about Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker. She fell for a fake video doing the rounds on social media and bashed the CEO for it.

In now deleted Instagram stories, Ranaut called Baker an "idiot of a man". The fake video in question was made in response to a Twitter user named Vashudev who had recorded himself appealing to Indians to boycott the airline following massive backlash India received for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma and party leader Naveen Kumar Jindal's derogatory remarks about the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him). Several Muslim countries had called for boycotts of Indian goods. Several Pakistani celebrities also called them out.

In the clip, the Twitter user is seen claiming that Qatar has offered refuge to a painter MF Hussain who he says had "painted nude images of Hindu goddesses". He mocked the country for "preaching" to Indians about Sharma's remarks and urged citizens of India to ban products from the Gulf state and its national flag carrier, Qatar Airways. According to NDTV, his video was in response to Indians reportedly being sacked in Qatar over the controversial remarks passed by the BJP leaders.

Another user in response to Vashudev's video, doctored Al Baker's interview with Al Jazeera and laced it with sarcastic jibes making it seem like the CEO is personally appealing to the Twitter user to call off his boycott of the airline.

"Vashudev is our biggest shareholder with a total investment of 624.50 Indian Rupees. We don't know how to operate anymore. We have grounded all flights. Our operations are not running anymore...," the Qatar Airways chief said in the doctored video.

Thalaivi star Ranaut seemed to have believed the doctored clip and took to her Instagram stories where she responded angrily at people supporting "the bully".

"All so-called Indians who are cheering this bully (Al Baker) for making fun of a poor man remember this is exactly why you all are a big bojh (burden) on this overpopulated country. This idiot of a man has no shame bullying a poor man mocking his insignificance and place in the world," she wrote in now expired Instagram stories.

Ranaut also wrote that the Twitter user may be "poor and insignificant for a rich man" like Al Baker but has the right to express grief, pain and disappointment in any context. "Remember there is a world beyond this world where we all are equal," she wrote.

We guess the sarcasm went right over her head.

Ranaut is no stranger to hate comments and social media attacks. Her Twitter account was suspended last year for one too many attacks. This also isn't her first time going after Muslims. She lent her support to Israel during the recent escalation of violence in Palestine and said, "In the fight against radical Islamic terrorism, India stands with Israel. Let’s eradicate the illness of terrorism from the world."
