Brooklyn-based singer Arooj Aftab scored her first ever Grammy, making her the first Pakistani to have won the award and Pakistan's stars are very proud of the 'Mohabbat' singer.

On Monday, April 4, the annual awards were held in Las Vegas where many stars including Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, Megan Thee Stallion, BTS and others walked the red carpet and also won awards. Aftab was nominated for two categories; Best Global Performance — that she won — and Best New Artist. Aftab was nominated alongside Wiz Khalifa, Yo-Yo Ma, Femi Kuti and Burna Boy for the category she won.

Taking to Twitter, Bin Roye star Mahira Khan shared how "proud" she is of Aftab and wrote, "Shine on you crazy star."

The Mom actor Adnan Siddiqui also tweeted and said that Aftab's achievement is "wonderful news" for the industry. "The entire world is recognising our country’s talent. Congratulations. Proud moment for all Pakistanis," he wrote.

Singer Hadiqa Kiani also penned a few words for the 'Mehram' singer and said she was "happy" to wake up to the most beautiful news —Aftab winning her first ever Grammy.

"Having witnessed your journey since back in the day, your perseverance and pursuit for knowledge in your field gives us great joy and a sense of pride. May you keep shining. Bohat si duyaayein [lots of prayers]," wrote singer Ali Zafar.

Music producer Rohail Hyatt also congratulated the artist and said that Aftab has made everyone proud.

Singer Abdullah Siddiqui re-shared a post about Aftab's win and wrote that he "called" the win before she actually got the award.

Ace designer HSY re-shared the same post and wrote that the news is "fantastic" and so is Aftab.

PTI member Shireen Mazari and Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari also tweeted to congratulate the singer.

Lawyer and activist Jibran Nasir also congratulated the singer, however, the politician criticised the state for not investing in the arts. "Time and again our artists through their own conviction and hard work prove their genius to the world while back home, state still fails to invest in the arts and give this industry the freedom and infrastructure to explore its talent and improve its craft," he wrote.

Aftab shared photos from the event on Instagram and expressed how proud she is of this moment personally but also for the industry itself.

Many celebrities dropped by in the comment section including British-Indian actor Freida Pinto and Never Have I Ever star Poorna Jagannathan.

Meesha Shafi, Bilal Maqsood, Azfar Rehman, Aiman Khan, Mushk Kaleem and Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy also commented under the post to congratulate the singer.

The 37-year-old — who has lived in New York for some 15 years — has been steadily gaining global attention for her work that fuses ancient Sufi traditions with inflections of folk, jazz and minimalism.

Grammy nominations isn't where it all ends for Aftab. This month the singer will be performing at Coachella, a music festival in California starting from April 15 till 24. Aftab is the first pakistani to perform at the festival alongside Harry Styles, Lil baby, Daniel Caesar, Phoebe Bridgers, Big Sean, Grupo Firme, Louis the Child, Baby Keem, Snoh Aalegra, City Girls, Madeon, NIKI, Peggy Gou, Carly Rae Jepsen, The Martinez Borthers and Bishop Briggs among many others.

Is it improper to accept and celebrate an award from a country that is conspiring and effecting regime change in Pakistan?
