American actor Amanda Bynes wants to terminate her nine-year conservatorship which grants her mother, Lynn Bynes, the legal authority to look after the actor's financial and/or daily life affairs.

According to PEOPLE magazine, the 35-year-old actor's lawyer told the publication, "Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship. She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary."

The Nickelodeon child star is known for films like She's the Man, Hairspray and What a Girl Wants. Her mother was granted temporary conservatorship over her daughter in 2013 after Bynes allegedly set fire to a driveway. Lynn regained conservatorship of the actor in 2014.

In September, a report on Bynes' health was submitted to the court in California, which was then approved. The next update on her health was scheduled for January 2023. Bynes' lawyer said her conservatorship was "not extended" through 2023. "Her conservatorship will terminate when it is no longer convenient for Amanda," he told the publication.

Her lawyer highlighted how Bynes' is in a good place these days. "She lives by the beach, attends school and is enjoying meditation and Soul Cycle classes."

The She's the Man actor is engaged to Paul Michael whom she met at her former sober living home in late 2019.

In 2020, her lawyer told the publication about Bynes' pursuing a degree at California's Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising after graduating with her associate's degree in 2019. "Amanda is very entrepreneurial," he said at the time. "She is investigating fragrances. She is now considering perfume in addition to a clothing line. But, don't get too excited. She is still a student at FIDM earning her degree."

In 2013, Bynes' parents expressed deep concerns to the court that their daughter may hurt herself or others unless they are allowed to assume control over her medical care and finances. The petition they filed detailed her public incidents of disturbing behaviour, including several arrests, and also revealed that the former child star has stated fears that she is being watched by smoke detectors and devices in the dashboard of her car.

Bynes was put under psychiatric hold after authorities said she set a fire in the driveway of a home in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks, where she grew up.

I hope she gets the required help. Her meltdown similar to Britney Spears' has been public. She went from being a rising star with money, fame, success to come crashing down all of sudden. She doesn't even look how she used to. Both her style and looks have changed. I think there is something in Hollywood's water.
