Ben Affleck takes off his Batman mask and reveals Justice League was 'the worst experience' for him
The coming together of some of the comic book world's greatest superheroes in 2017's Justice League was a highly anticipated team-up film for DC lovers but little did anyone know what was going on with Batman i.e. Ben Affleck when he was off set. The actor has finally revealed his life was was turned upside down because of several factors that eventually led to an end to him directing and starring as Batman.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, in response to why his priorities changed during that time, Affleck said he'd stopped enjoying the experience. "You’re supposed to always want these things, and I probably would have loved doing it at 32 or something," he said, adding that he'd realised there were more important things that needed his attention at the time.
Calling Justice League the "nadir" for him, he said "that was a bad experience because of a confluence of things: my own life, my divorce, being away too much, the competing agendas and then director Zack Snyder’s personal tragedy (Snyder’s daughter Autumn died by suicide in 2017) and the reshooting" with new director Joss Whedon.
"It just was the worst experience. It was awful. It was everything that I didn’t like about this. That became the moment where I said I’m not doing this anymore.” He added that it wasn't particularly Justice League that led to him reacting this way, "it could have been anything."
In an interview with Variety, Affleck commented on his more recent comeback as Batman in the upcoming film The Flash saying “it was a really nice way to revisit that as the prior experience had been difficult. This was really lovely. Really fun.”
This may be the last time we see Affleck in a cape and mask since Robert Pattinson has taken over as the new Batman.
